As with many of the "They Came from..." lines, the authors captured the essence and feel of what it was to be/play in an 80's/90's slasher film. As quite the slasher film buff, this really got my engines revved to run this for my group. The book sets the stage for all the classic horror movie slashers (Freddy, Jason, Child's Play, Leatherface) and gives you the tools to go beyond that (when combined with the corebook, They Came from Beyond the Grave). I loved writing up a Stuntman Mike-esque character (Deathproof slasher) for my players to engage with. For those who love tabletop games and slasher films of any era, this is definitely a great addition to your collection of tools for game building.

I seriously dug the core game, but this supplement is my jam. Slashers for the win! It does a fabulous job of building the atmosphere and feel of those early to mid 80's style flicks. The Archetypes are perfect and totally bring me back to the days of big hair, valley girls (fer sure!), and neon clothes. If you are a fan of the sub-genre this is a must-have! Even if you're not there is plenty here to add to the core game!

This supplement really gets the slasher movie genre right. The Archetypes are spot on and the Director chapter does a great job of setting the stage for a 1980's style game. The Antagonist section has a wide variety of villians to bring in. For those familiar with the They Came From... series the new quips, stunts, and cinematics are a lot of fun to play with.

Who should by this: — fans of They Came From... looking for new stories, fans of 80s slasher films.

Can I gush for a second?

Thank you for the indulgence.

First off, as a child of the '80s (Technically '70s, but really the '80s), this is my style of horror movie. The camp the murder the lake, etc. All of it is fantastic, this book absolutely drips with tone. It isn't fair how talented Matthew Dawkins is. While it is true that this book does require, They Came From Beyond the Grave! (And, OP, a bundle would help this issue, because I am NOT sure that this book, by itself is worth $39.98 #LoveYa) that is likely the ONLY downside I can think of when I consider this book.

So, with the bad out of the way, let's get to the good.

This book is beefy at 118 pages of content (that includes an adventure) It also packs in 40 pages of resources to print and have for the game. These are quips and twists, and the are just as amazing as we have come to expect from Onyx Path.

The art is magnificent. The family on page 8 is amazing by itself (and likely my favorite in the book) but page 14 is so, simply disturbing, and the little girl on 70 belongs in a museum.

The Archetypes are perfect for the genre and evoke exactly the right mood for this style of game. Without giving away too much, the Wild Child just bleeds Return of the Living Dead graveyard.

Honestly, if you are at all interested in this genre, buy this book. If you THINK you might be, but don't own They Came From Beyond the Grave! you MIGHT wait for the inevitable sale because, I wonder how much value a group will get from the two books.

For me, I bought this book day 1. It was a no brainer. Dixie, Klara, Eddy, and, Matthew are some of my favorite authors in the TTRPG business at the moment, and having them come together (with some other fantastic authors at the same time.) for this package was simply sublime.

This is a heafty addition to the They Came From Beyond the Grave. Basically taking the horror movie genre into the more specific genre of the '80s slasher movies. Very detailed, full new set of archetypes, new quips, new cinematics, a whole slew of horrific opponents to kill your players with, and a new mechanic called Twists which basically help mix up the plot mid game, which I'm eager to see in action. The book itself is entertaining and for those in the know about the genre and film making there are a few small easter egg like jokes hidden within. My favorite was the Alan Smithee reference. (look it up)
You still need the They Came From Beyond the Grave sourcebook to play. It's basically everything you need to play, minus the system chapters. You don't even have to be well versed in slasher flics in order to run this. I really liked it and am looking forward to playing with this.
One of the things that I have more than liked about the They Came From... series is how interchangable things are. I ran a game of They Came From Beneath the Sea using a couple archetypes from They Came From Beyond the Grave and it worked seamlessly. I can totally see the new content from this new book adapting very easily into the other games already in existance as well as what they may come up with next.
Can't wait for the print edition to be made available. I'm old school and I like a physical book in my hand.
