If you loved the movie The Ghost and The Darkness with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas and you love the cosmic horror genre you will absolutely love Sorrow in Tsavo.

This module is made with obvious love and care to detail. Especially regarding the people and cultures that worked on the Uganda-Mombassa Railway. The NPCs and Pre-Gens give life to the game, and you are almost immediately thrown into the action.

Based on a true story but obviously exaggerated and filled with Lovecraftian elements, this module will put you in the position of those responsible for the livlihood and wellbeing of laborers as well as the building of a bridge. However, two lions called the Ghost and the Darkness by the workers keep coming at night to hunt. Only you can save the workers and complete this bridge for the British Empire.

How will you do it? Will you survive?

This scenario is amazing. For the era it covers many aspects often not covered in other Victorian games.

The use of a colonial setting could lead to a dark place when running the game and the risk of getting bogged down in old colonial attitudes. This scenario uses these to mask some of the events and leads investigators to interact across societal boundaries to get all of the necessary information to successfully navigate the events.

This is also a viscerally bloody adventure if played to its fullest and the party may struggle to survive despite their access to many of the advantages of its era. The players will need to take note of their actions to ensure their survival.

Even after playing this scenario a couple of days ago i am drawn back to the memories of the game and reliving the doom that befell my character... something i usually shrug away as an experienced gamer.

I loved it...

I had the opportunity to play this scenario with the author in late 2020 and had a blast. Pregens offer a good dynamic between cultures present at the site. I really did not know how it was going to end but enjoyed every step of the journey.

Ran this for a local to me convention and the players loved it, as well as the historical detail (and of course referencing the movie). If you want a great adventure in an unsual location, pick this one up.

There is so much to love in this scenario. The history presented is excellent, as are the pre-gens, who all get moments to shine (special shout out to "Irene Beckett" - The Big Game Huntress). The inclusion of author's notes alongside the text provides the Keeper great tips and tricks for running the scenario, which makes this an excellent introductory one-shot scenario as - despite its apparent broad geographic reach - the way locations are describes helps direct investigators and saves Keepers from being overwhelmed. If you want to try Call of Cthulhu, but don't want to fall back on some of the more established entry-points, this is a great and memorable go-to.

Love the core concept, The Ghost & The Darkness is a favourite movie of mine, so be able to play it is fantastic The module is well layed out & easy to follow, a keeper's dream. Very nice work Bridgett, love it.

Not only is this scenario well-written, fun, and horrifying, the design and layout is excellent. Compelling works of art throughout the piece make this a true product and not just a PDF of Keeper notes. The scenario is also written as helpfully as possible to the audience, a Keeper who is going to run this game. This advice makes it much easier to run than some products, which contain hidden assumptions and not enough guidance if you don't have all the knowledge of the creator. To top it all off, the setting and protagonists are unique within the Call of Cthulhu archives, which make this a must-buy for Keepers who want to bring compelling and unique adventures to their table. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This scenario is well written and layout is amazing. great for experienced players and new players alike. Deffinately suggest anything done by this author.
