As a relative newcomer to RuneQuest I found the material in this book to be very consequential when explaining what living in Glorantha is like to my players. This means it was also foundational to understanding it for myself, so doubly good for the price offered. For a setting with well over 40 years of lore written about it, Glorantha can be very intimidating to unbox, but with this campaign's lens so focused on this one specific spot, we see that burden lifted. I appreciated the limit the author put on the number of chapters and encounters, but also, the different ways these challenges could be solved and the examples at the end of different scenes which could be weaved into any story.

I can't recommend this adventure enough: it's just a glorious introduction to Glorantha. If I was to note anything, it's that it is important to discuss some of the content with your players, especially the Riddle. I think the author calls that need out, but in retrospect I would have run the Riddle a little differently, especially with multiple female adventurers.

I had only one experience in the world of Glorantha prior to playing the Six Seasons in Sartar campaign. Being totally unfamiliar with Runequest I struggled to understand my character's place in the world.

From the very beginning of Six Seasons in Sartar, I felt supported by the narrative and quickly found my footing. The Initiation rites are an amazing story element that helped me understand why my character was destined to become an initiative of her primary cult. The insight that I gained as player during initiation informed all of my roleplay decisions going forward. The Riddle may be the most memorable experience of the whole campaign

Six Seasons in Sartar provided the foundation that was missing for me in the Runequest Starter Set adventures. As a Clan, we played, we struggled, we suffered loss and victory together in a way that felt meaningful. I will forever be a proud Harabron

For players new to Runequest, this adventure offers an opportunity to explore the importance of family, clan and tribe in Glorantha.

Six Seasons in Sartar by Andrew Logan Montgomery is absolutely one of the BEST kick-off campaigns I've come across for Runequest in the 30+ years I've played this wonderful game. It is a deep slice of Sartar culture, using the Haraborn clan, and nicely bounded for new (and old) players; geographically, spiritually and time-wise, so that the GM and players have a great starting point and a balance on Runequest knowledge - you do not need to be experienced and/or well RQG read - just start!

Six Seasons in Sartar is one of the those playing aids that as something for those new to Glorantha and those who have been familiar with the world for 20+ years.

It is my favorite Gloranthan supplement written to date (2023/03). If you are starting a new campaign set in Sartar then this is a great place to start your campaign. If you have an existing campaign that you want to introduce new players to then the adult hood initation rites are a great introduction for new players.

Highly recommended.

Simply put, I cannot recommend this masterpiece more.

It is the perfect way to introduce RuneQuest and the world of Glorantha to a group, whether they are roleplaying veterans or fresh recruits. This alone makes it to me an absolute must have for RuneQuest but it's not the only reason to recommend this.

This is the story of the Haraborn clan but more importantly the story of a group of characters. The episodes, the six seasons, are the backbone and flesh out the story but there are built in so many options to make it the story of the characters. In my 30+ years of playing and running games, never have I seen a group of players so invested in their characters, their stories and how it will all play out.

This is the one I will always use to bring new players to RuneQuest from now on.

Being in my early 50's and have decades of gaming experience with various systems I thought I'd give Runequest another go. First time was in the 80's but I was too young, broke and teenager to really grasp what Glorantha was so I skimmed the books, run few half-hearted games and moved on. But I always had a nagging feeling that I was missing something. So last year I bought one book, loved it and gradually I got all the Chaosium books. But being in my 50's I also realize that there's finite number of campaigns I have time to run so I have a mindmap for at least the next decade for potential campaigns. But now I realized I just got to run something in Glorantha and I bought this one based on the review. And oh man is it good. It's that kind of book that you feel 5 stars isn't enough. It feels real and grounded and at the same time exciting, new and larger than life. The writing's top notch and you can really feel the love and experience the writer has for the world. Instead of skirting around the big, big stuff that's happening in the setting the campaign heads straight into the, world shaking, weird and wonderful but in a really smart way. It's definitely gonna be next thing I'm going to run and I'm really excited.

I'm late to the party with this review and the previous reviews will give you as much detail as anything I could write, so I'll just say this: this product is a great way to introduce players to RQ and Glorantha. I have been a RQ gamemaster since 1978 and this is one of the most effective tools I have ever seen for the task of immersing a first-time player into RuneQuest or getting a power gamer to understand the WHY of Glorantha. You might find something else as good but I haven't seen anything better than Six Seasons in Sartar by Andrew Logan Montgomery.

Superb!

Six Seasons in Sartar is a good product; but, from the reviews, you would think it is a perfect product. Six Seasons has some problems. My intention is to provide some constructive feedback to the author.

I integrated Six Seasons into my campaign and I'm quite happy to have used it. For me, Six Seasons did a great job in transitioning the campaign from a clan-based narrative to a "we're in the rebellion now" narrative.

I'll start with the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. At the end, I have notes on the scenarios. While I don't wish to spoil the scenarios, there will be some light spoilers. Don't read my comments if you want a spoiler-free review.

THE GOOD

Andrew has a terrific grasp of what makes Glorantha work. As many other reviewers have noted, Six Seasons is an easy way to start a campaign. The sequence of episodes provides an excellent pathway as earlier episodes provide foreshadowing into the later episodes; Six Seasons flows well. By the time you get to the final episode, players shouldn't feel like it is a shock ending because Andrew has telegraphed it well.

THE BAD

On one level, I love a lot of the narration that Andrew has put into the work. That narration has lots of useful Gloranthan bits and is important in the context of the Six Seasons campaign.

My problem with it is that much of it works a piece of fiction like a short story as opposed to an RPG. Since I'm running the episodes in the VTT environment, I find myself in reading a large wall of text to the players. Without seeing the player's faces, I can't easily tell if the players or with me or if I have lost them. There's too many places where it seems like a firehose of information is presented to the players. The initiation episodes are particularly problematic.

THE UGLY

Andrew needs an editor. The spelling and grammar are atrocious. The maps are very weak and I ended up using other resources for the encounters.

THE EPISODES - Spoilers below, you have been warned. . . . . . . The Riddle and Rites of Passage are both Orlanthi initiation episodes; one for the women and one for the men. They're drawn directly from Greg Stafford's writings. Before Six Seasons was released, I attempted to write up my own version and I'll happily admit that Andrew's version is far superior to my version.

The Riddle is about the women's initiation and is a terrific introduction to becoming a worshiper of Ernalda or another Earth cult. For a PC who intends to worship Ernalda, this is a perfect introduction; simply follow along Ernalda's path and learn more about her story. The problem is with female PCs who are not following Ernalda's path. Early on, there is some discussion about making other choices; however, that discussion is quickly discarded for the remainder of the episode. The PC seems to have no choice but to follow in Ernalda's footprints and loses all of her agency. [I don't want to put all of this on Andrew. There have been significant discussions on the Chaosium messageboards in the past about improving the ways that we work with female PCs in the Glorantha setting.]

Rites of Passage works very well. The meeting with Hengall drags a bit. Hengall talks and talks and talks. There's lots of good information in there. But it needs to be interrupted occasionally to give the PCs a chance to act. The episode can be a tough experience for male PCs who aren't designed for combat such as a Lankhor Mhy or Issaries PC. It would be nice if they had a way to shine. Otherwise, I've run this episode about ten times and it is a lot of fun.

In Sheep's Clothing: The PCs find themselves trying to solve a murder mystery. This episode succumbs to the same problem that I have seen too many times in other RPG mysteries: nothing the PCs do really matters. The episode certainly works as the PCs run around trying to gather clues and figure out what is going on. But, at some point, the bad guy reveals himself and forces himself into a fatal confrontation with the PCs. The actions of the bad guy don't make any sense; he should go to ground for a bit and let everything cool down. Instead, he sows the seeds of his own destruction for no apparent reason.

The Deer Folk: This episode really gets the metaplot for the campaign going. There's lots of good stuff. There's a nice discussion of Harvest Day and Reaping Day that give terrific insight into the clan's worship ceremonies. There's lots of good narration, but too little for the PCs to do. That's followed by a significant discussion with the clan Ring and the PCs have no reason to be present for it. In my campaign, the PCs are much more experienced and there was a good reason for them to be present. In any event, the PCs are sent off on an important mission and are lucky enough to come across something important; the descriptions are colorful and evocative. But it isn't interesting. The PCs don't need to do anything other than walk in and get something. It's important, but there's no challenge.

The Taking: This episode builds nicely from a previous episode. The initial investigation is nice although very brief. The meat of the episode works well.

The Starbrow: The interaction with Kallyr is wonderful; the players really enjoyed how all of that played out. That part of the episode works great. But then there's the dungeon delve. It's short and not interesting; there's just one hazard and one puzzle. The delve could really use a combat encounter to give the PCs more to do here. The puzzle ended up working very well and only about 1 of 4 of players did the right thing. Fortunately, each group had at least one PC doing the right thing.

The Turning: This episode worked out really well. It's a good conclusion for the Six Seasons campaign.

This is a fantastic supplement for players and GMs new to RuneQuest and want to understand Heortling culture. It explains in depth, the nature of councils, society organization, initiation rituals, and Heroquesting. If you can get only one Jonstown Compendium item, this is the one.

I love the fact that this is a complete campaign pack with many sessions worth of play. It fits in neatly with the "official" Chaosium material and timeline for Glorantha, but provides a new and separate background to work with. It covers the land, the cults, the people, the key NPCs and has six (duh) modules worth of play. Very little preparation required on the part of the GM, if you are after something you can run with minimal fuss and preparation, this is it.
