A great mix of starter level simplicity and deep lore immersion. One is more than tempted to spice this up with appropriate prelude and aftermath to suit ones own campaign, but the way the story is written encourages just that. And manages to do it without being incomplete.

The bonus art is also magnificent.

Well, I can't blame the reviewer calling this product "silly" and "a farce", and yet I heartily desagree with him. Because it is almost silly, and it is almost farcical, but it's not quite those things. How the hell does it manage to stand so close to the edge without falling into the other side is something only Nick Brooke understands; he's a magician like that.

This book is a great way to jump start a RuneQuest campaign. Your character party can be part of a major Hero Wars event and meet Important People! The adventure is compact and perfect for a single session.

Just what I want in RQ. Wonderful combination of gritty realism, weird and wonderful deep lore. Haven't yet played it but already planning to include it in my soon starting campaign.

I made the mistake of buying this title, thinking it would have some actual detail on this important event of the hero wars. The author is more interested in demonstrating how learned and clever he is, mostly to himself, since he clearly is not interested in providing something actually fun or useful for RQ players. He ignores known facts about this important battle in order to weave his own fanfiction version, a silly and unplayable farce instead of a well designed scenario.

The egregious Phil O'Connor has a nasty habit of leaving bad reviews after losing self-inflicted run-ins with authors on social media. Best ignored.

I have a lot of time for pretty much anything Nick Brooke does. DaD is a small but perfectly formed scenario plunging the players into one of the pivotal moments of the Hero Wars. It is full of useful himts for how to make events entertaining and often very funny (which is always a plus for me).

Plus it's so cheap it's neay free, so it would be foolish not to invest in a copy.

Should you not already have it, this fella enthusiastically recommends it. This is as much a must have as Six Seaons in Sartar, especially if you’re running the obligatory post Dragonrise - Sartar - Argrath campaign. It’s not just good but also highly adaptable. I ran it with several changes that were very easily made and it is also full of excellent lore and references that will lead you further into the world of Glorantha.

This supplement is excellent value, particularly with the addition of wonderfully evocative art by Hirotsugu Kaga. If the metaplot of Glorantha has always seemed a bit remote to you (as it has for me) then Duel at Dangerford grabs you by the scruff of your neck and shows you how to make it accessible and fun. You can almost hear the gathered hordes hooting and howling (and wagering) as the Adventurers duel (at Dangerford...) to keep the Lunar army at bay.

Duel at Dangerford is also helpful for GM's trying to get a feel for what the aftermath of the Dragonrise feels like in northern Sartar. Although this follows a non-canonical timeline, it matters not - Acts 1 and 2 are a great resource to supplement the "The Hero Wars Begin" section of The History of Dragon POass in The Glorantha Sourcebook.

There is some additional material in the supplement - the expansions for two scenarios/locations in Nymie Vale are very welcome. I'm less clear on why I would want several pages of playtest feedback on another RQG supplement (Smoking Ruin) but it may come in handy when I run that scenario so I will rule in favour of its inclusion.

This was one of my first JC purchases and one I keep coming back to for reference. Highly recommended.

I added those appendices -- my "Smoking Ruin" playtest notes and "Dragon of Thunder Hills" suggestions -- as free extras: it didn't feel sensible to share such spoiler-laden content to the Facebook group or BRP Central forum, but I thought only RuneQuest GMs would be buying my scenario, and at least some of them would like it. The playtest feedback was already written, I just lightly edited it for publication. The "Thunder Hills" bits are stuff I came up with for my own game: I particularly like what it does to Tarndisi's Grove. Thank you very much for the generous review! And yes, the scenario was written to show my players a slice of the bigger picture: this was when they first learned the Lunars were still holding on in Alda-Chur, and witnessed the start of the [REDACTED BY ROYAL COMMAND].

First, the quality of the physical copy is great. It is a soft cover, but glossy. Very professional.

With that out of the way, let me start by saying this scenario is a fantastic way to get players beginning to experience the myth and magic of Glorantha. It is set during a very important time in the history of Dragon Pass and Sartar in particular.

We have the characters getting involved in epic and Honor (LOTS of Honor passions in Sartar!) bound challenges to the advancing Lunar army.

We have mysticism, Heroes from the depths of HeroQuesting, braggarts, cowards and even summoned Lunar demons! Couple that with political intrigue and assassination attempts and you have yourself a wonderful story, well told.

It is wonderfully written with excellent advice for GMs. It is also humorous in places and I find that my players enjoy humor in sessions, especially if things are getting a little tense!

I do not hesitate to recommend The Duel at Dangerford. You should buy it now!

All I can say is that it's a very good exciting scenario that enables the players to participate in a bit of Gloranthan history.

The scenariiio is written in a really clever way that creates a real sense of occasion (even adapting the opening verses of Horatius from Lord Macauly's Lays of Ancient Rome) and all delivered with real panache......

This supplement has obviously been created with real love and care and I really appreciate the fact that options and advice are given to GM's at various stages.

Bloody Good and simple to run.

What's not to Love?

Bravo!!!

There's not much I can say which has not already been said. This is perhaps the platonic ideal of a standalone adventure for a role-playing game: it works as a convention/one-shot scenario, it works to kick off a campaign, it works as the closer or coda to a campaign, and it works as a scenario in the middle of a campaign.

In addition, it offers a straightforward tutorial in the process of creating one's own adventures, and on top of all this, it offers a way to put characters into the (semi-notoriously) involved, deep, etc. setting of Glorantha that begins with a scenario from all kinds of pop and high culture and then beckons players further on into exploring the mysteries and nooks and crannies of the setting.

And it's only four bucks and a pleasure to read in the bargain!

I used to play Runequest back in the day with the Avalon Hill version (which wasn't that Gloranthan, even though it had hints of it), but I nevertheless managed to get my hands on some sourcebooks to get an idea what Glorantha is. Then I forgot about it for the next 30 years.

I recently got the new edition of Runequest and it sat in my shelf for about six months, until I decided to read it. At the same time, I started googling around 'Glorantha' as the new edition is quite good in sparking interest and wonder about how big Glorantha actually is. Few google searches later, I get into a forum and from there onto this adventure. Now at this point, I'm aware that around the time the character's you create by default roll onto the stage, a thing called Dragonrise has taken place and there's all kinds of aftermaths happening.

Long story short, this scenario looked interesting (I'm bad at buying indie stuff, but this looked ok) and I have to say, it's not necessarily the most meatiest thing I've read and the writing style probably splits opinions, but it sure has hell gives food for thought about the greater timeline of Glorantha, the NPCs and where does this fit in your campaign. Roughly week later after reading this, I've pretty much bought the Glorantha Sourcebooks, Red Cow stuff, King of Sartar and god knows what else... I love it that 'your Glorantha will vary', but that there's this rich tapestry of interesting scenarios that can be plugged into it. As far as the scenario goes - yeah, haven't played it - but have read it multiple times and for a newcomer into Runequest, I'd recommend it, as it opens up A) a very interesting ideas about the default timeline and how a new GM can get started with it B) thoughts on some of the other RQ products (which helps a starting GM to actually get a string of quality products to run and tie them together. It's also short, so it's not incredibly intimidating and you can also get an idea of how another GM runs his games, reading between the lines.

The quality of this product is fantastic. The scenario has all of the attributes that make for a good game and tie into how I want the game to run. firstly it is epic and puts pcs at the centre of a big event. Second there is a lot of humour. i actually imagined how my usual players would laugh when the "enemy" made arena seats. the scenario timing is tricky as it assumes that the players are known, but also happens at the start of the current campaign setting. luckily enough none of the pcs for my about to start campaign have a background affected by this and so I have decided to run a couple of scenarios and then this. I am particularly interested in how the pc that at every event in family history seemed to get "hate Lunars" fares. i liked the poetry bit but feel that my dodgy cockney voice will let it down so may skip this, unless I can persuade a friend to record it for me........
