This game system is the gold-standard for solo RPGs and GM-ing with improv. I can't recommend it enough. The rules are low crunch and drive the story forward with twists and turns and complications. The oracle/random tables are delicious and well-organized.

The setting is cool, but far too "perilous". The oracle tables and world-generation procedures create a space sector that I have a hard time suspending my disbelief about. The scarce resources, low populations, limited trade, and hostile environments all make for a world that would quickly extinguish human life.

Luckily, the game system is perfectly capable of driving a campaign in a homebrew Sci Fi world (or a world of fantasy or other genres, for that matter). The oracle tables are still great in a more hospitable and thriving Sci Fi universe, but you will need paint the broad brushstrokes of that universe yourself.

If you can't find a group to play with consistently, if you're a forever-GM who wants to play a character, or if you want a low-crunch system that always drives the story forward, this is the game for you.

Starfoged is a very special contribution to the world of RPGs. I'll be playing it for years to come.

I love this! These new mechanics really take Ironsworn to the next level.

For the solo role-player, the GM is the combination of Mechanics + Oracles. They tell you what happens next, they make decisions all on their own, they surprise you. This is what makes solo role-playing feel like you, the player character, are genuinely navigating a story and a world that you don't control. But for this to work, you must stay within the Mechanics + Oracles' intended scope.

I'm sure the folks who find this product will already have Ironsworn: Delve. Consider the difference between delving ruins and wilderness using that supplement versus the base game. That's the power of specialized Mechanics + Oracles.

How do you hunt monsters and beasts? How do you create mysteries one clue at a time? What is the nature of your Corruption debility, or the malevolent spirit that now resides in you?

This product introduces mechanics and oracles to address these questions. With dedicated systems, these aspects of the game make decisions on their own, and pull you in directions you wouldn't think of. Most important, you don't feel like you're making things up; the specialized mechanics and oracles are telling you what happens next.

Highly recommended!

The GM materials are so deep and so flexible. The extra content in the paid version is worth it.
