I have been a GM for almost 30 years, and when I discovered Degenesis 2 years ago I had the experience of a lifetime. It has one bug defaut, it makes other RPGs look weaker. DG Rebirth has the best art, the best layout, the best writing by far. The lore is incredibly complex but - very important point - always stays coherent. The system is simple and robust, the hight lethality enforces the need to find friends in this harsh world. The real Tour de Force is the fact that all of it works, you can feel what it is like to travel through the swamps in the south, to do pirate stuff in the mediterranean dying sea, finding a hot soup in the largest city of the world. There is an important metalplot, with events that began centuries having effect today, but they are not things that make the PCs irrelevant.

I should precise that Degenesis Rebirth is 2 books (well 2 pdfs). Primal Punk is about lore, cultures, history. Katharsys is the system but alos contains information.

The dice pool system is : robust : it does not break when a PC or NPC is very weak or very strong. simple : it is easy to understand ant to explain, and making NPCs on the go when you are a GM is simple. lethal : if you get into a fight there will be blood, and broken bones and bleeding wounds that will take a long time to heal.

The only flaws that one can find in the game are fixed in the supplement Artifacts, expaling how to have inter-cults party, more PC options, etc. It takes at least 2 readings to get the grasp of the monster (368 pages, twice!) but it is a bliss to get involved in this licence. Try it. It will change you. You will have to go through hardships to reach the stars, but it will be worth it.

A very useful tool, inside you will the descriptions of 4 Clans living in the South of Franka for the Degeneverse. They are colourful, interesting, well written and make for great PCs. Of course the book can be used for NPCs and has a basis to make your own clan elsewhere in the world.

As usual, very nice production value, and a cryptic sentence can be explained fully in a future book, so a must have.

This little module takes place between The Killing Game and Black Atlantic and makes a nice transition, introducing NPCs that your players will love to hate. The descritption of the town is interesting and can be transposed elsewhere in the swamps if you do not want to play the Trilogy - but that would mean missing lots of things.

Disclaimer : I had the books (french translations) and finished GMing the campaign 1 week ago. So all of it is still fresh and what a ride it was.

This massive book (275 pages, of which 128 are for the script itself) is a marvel. The description of Briton (where I come from, so I might be biased) brings a marine breath of fresh air to the Degenesis range. It should be noted that each of the scenarios of the Trilogy takes place in a very different environment, and at the same time the sequence is credible, the atmospheres varied and the protagonists credible and endearing (or so bastardly that we love to hate them).

It's very, very well written, and a huge mass of the world's secrets are revealed. On this subject, all Degenesis storytellers must read the trilogy if they want to enjoy the newly released Justitian.

The story is very rhythmic, engaging, dangerous too. Yet it is not complicated to gamemaster, because the illustrations and words are all loaded with meaning and emotion. Also the layout and production value (the maps, the layout, the gaming aids) are top. 100% recommended.

DEGENESIS: The Killing Game

Toulon must burn This second work in Jehammed's testament is a stifling scenario, which inflames the leader when he reads it and sees how the author has created a lively, attractive city, but also made of matches. The different neighbourhoods of the city, its inhabitants who all have good reasons to act against each other, the scents, colours and the food near the port make the players want to make it more beautiful, save it, and see the terrible mess that is looming.

The form is as beautiful as the content, as always with Degenesis, and the fact that I had to read and reread the script to get a good grasp of it didn't bother me at all.

DEGENESIS: In Thy Blood

This is the first book in a scenario trilogy around the Will of Jehammed, and you will ask me : whi is Jehammed? well you will have to play through In Thy Blood, The Killing Game and Black Atlantic to know this J guy. Intended for beginning characters, the claustropobic scenario has lots of resonace with The Name of The Rose (book and movie both are very worthy of your attention), dealing with religions, forbidden lore, political intrigue and sins. As susual with Degenesis, the NPCs are not good or veil, they only have motivations that are not fortuitious and sometimes thay make bad choices. It is the easiest scenario of the Trilogy to GM, as the scope is smaller (number of pages, NPCs, metaplot involvement), and a very good introduction in the steallar journey that is composed by the full Campaign.

Little advice : as a GM do not hesitate to deviate from the story, and you can say no to some characters combinations if you do not feel at ease with them. It is for the greater good of your Players.

This little supplement is like a DLC (but as the other SixMoreVodka books, pay what you want - they deserve a lot) for ARtifacts, showing examples of defined NPCs, theire relationships to each other, it gives insight on how characters from different cults can work together. A usual, it has great writing, art and layout.

DEGENESIS: Justitian

Where to begin with this Monster? I felt that I went through a grindworks when I finished reading, a new, elevated and happy person.

Once upon a time Chicago by Night was the pinnacle of RPG supplements. The description of a town, with maps, and lots of different NPCs and their interactions was something new. Well Justitian is 2 books, totalling almost 700 pages, with the best illustrations there are in any RPG, beautiful layout, and writing that is both engaging and good at describing all the things from this vibrant world, from the food in a little stall, to the top political intrigues and powers behind the bureaucracy. The production value is the best. Nothing matches it.

The first book is The Righteous Fist, and describes a vast region of Borca, covering more than 40 000 km². The towns, wether small or more important are full of intricate details and story hooks, and of course a large part of the book is about Justitian, largest town in the world of Degenesis. Each district of this monster city is a pleasure to read, and I will be so happy to have my players discover them. The second one, Moloch, is about the figures you can meet in Justitian, so many of them not only give plot hooks but also you could make a whole scenario just with one of the tidbits of info next to the stats of the NPC.

Although this is a huge work, it is not that difficult to digest, and reading it is such a pleasure you do not feel like you are working when prepping a game.

DEGENESIS: Artifacts
Publisher: SIXMOREVODKA

This book at the time it went out had the best production value in a RPG ever, black and gold, with a magnificient layout that does not sacrifice efficiency - on the contrary.

It contains optional systems, not exacctly rules as the Katharsys system is very robust on its own, but adds good hacks for survival, healing, critical wounds, market economy, energy management and so many other useful things. It also contains all the potentials to customize PCs and NPCs even further. As usual with SixMoreVodka, the illustrations are the best they can be, and many snipets of lore are entwined, like a beautiful jigsaw to assemble.

It is the perfect companion for Degenesis Rebirth.

I had to try it, the hype was too much. the layout is something else, for people who say you will love it or hate it, it is dishonest as you know quite well in what you are engaging. If you want to try OSR, in a magnificient format, there it is. I was flabbergasted by the efficiency of the thing, only about 96 pages and nohing is lacking. This is good, very good.
