The dark and disturbing setting give this game four stars. The dice pool mechanics and the bookkeeping are what keep this from being a five star. Had this been ruleset would be converted to Into the Odd or the Mork Borg rules this game would be certainly be a hit. As it is this is a hidden gem, I hope more people give a chance.

This is a great stream-lined fantasy rpg. It has what I like from the OSR movement and Savage Worlds. I like the art and the layout. The only quibble I have is with the combat rules options for warriors which prevents this from being a 5 star game. I have selected 5 down below as there is no 4.75 but this a stellar game. I can't see me ever going back to another true D&D edition.

Ps: I love that the spells were condensed in this game as well. There is no need for endless books of spells when this delivers the core of what most magic gamers will use.

If you wanted to play a hybrid of Mork Borg and Better Left Buried with better written rules and not obscured by art this is the game for you. It gives a gritty and rules light system. I had originally gave it a four start rating was the only way to level up is done by gear and the microsettings are underwhelming (I later came around and felt that was not enought to reduce it to four stars). It's not that the first microsetting (The Jerk In The Castle) is bad but if feels like it should be written for a different the tone feels more like it should be a setting for Tiny Dungeons not for Tomb Punk. It feel more like Kevin Costner's Robin Hood but the lead is now a female. Nothing wrong with the twist it just doesn't have the grit to it. The second micro-setting (Dirty-Hand Haven) has the gritty tone that Tomb Punk is all about but because there are two micro-settings you really there more for this setting. It really is a shame that more pages could not be add for second setting. Those critiques should not deter you from buying this game. Another great game designed by Alan Bahr. Also the artwork in the book is great as well.

The balance of narrative gaming and chance are done with great effect. The only thing that brings the game down for me is the armor and wounds. It adds a level of crunch that feels unnecessary. I guess I'm too old school in that I still prefer hit points. I feel that Black Hack 2nd Edition has a lighter system that would fit what they were going for. Regardless this is a great game.
