Excellent value as a POD with a reliable system that is compatible with the Cyberpunk RPG (should you ever consider a crossover).

I think I am right in considering the 1st edition of Mekton to be the first Japanese Anime adaptation for tabletop gaming as well as being one of the first Mecha games (Battle Tech was also released in 1984). However, the full anime RPG effect didn’t really come until Mekton Zeta (released in the mid 1990s).

The system is quite technical - like Cyberpunk which I see as a feature as it allows players to really simulate the design and tactical battle of the giant mecha in the game, but there are also roleplaying opportunities outside straight combat too. It features a life path generator for characters like in Cyberpunk which I think is notable. The setting is ‘multiversal’ with some some specific worlds detailed and it is pretty open to storytelling creativity. The presentation is a scan which makes some of the black and white imagery (was it originally colour?) a bit murky but still easy enough to read.

Good buy for sci-fi fans.

I loved this game back in the day but as an adult, I don't have the bandwith for this much crunch in my rpgs. This game is definitely showing it's age despite being a true classic.

They fix the issues I mentioned in my review long ago, the pages look much better, even more sharper. They add bookmarks so you can find all information and tables quick without the problem of memorize or go to index. They really check the review of people, that purchase the book, and they keep them in mind. Great work and I really appreciate it

Old review

I give it 3 stars, because the system is simple, so everyone could play without problems, the ambience is detail in every aspect even they take care about fuel and size of mechas and spaceship and pilots habilities. if you love series about mechas such as gundam, patlabor, etc. and you want to create your own universe about them, this is perfect. Although the system and the details are perfect; the pdf is not so great, the scan pages have some white lines, also you can see the page of the other side, and there is no bookmarks that could help you to find quickly some tables or information.

I hope they'll fix these little problems, even if they are making a new version.

However is worth to buy it.

One of the better mecha based RPGs out there. Simple enough to cover the majority of the details you would need in an action based game, with enough left over to other more role playing issues that often crop up during play.

This is a fantastic game system that can handle just about any type of mecha game you want to run. From giant lumbering Battletech-style mecha, to nimble transforming Robotech, to beam saber wielding Gundam, and so much more. It can be a crunchy system, but it's not hard to tailor it to your tastes. Take out or add to get as fiddly as you want to be. Hands down, my favorite mecha system.

The only reason I don't give this product five stars is that the scan for the .pdf is okay. The cover is beautiful, but the interiors are a little fuzzy and there are some lines from the scanner, and in some places shadows from the printing on the next page. There is nothing terrible about it, but I've come to have higher expectations for the quality of the images. Plus the artwork is beautiful and the scan quality takes away from that.

This is especially surprising because the companion book, Mekton Zeta+, is a beautiful file! Sharp, clear, and just what you want in a .pdf product.

But, if mecha games are your thing, this is the product for you.

So you wanted to write and produce your own Anime series? This is the book that allows you to tell Epic Saga right from your very own kitchen table. Babes, Gun, Mecha, and other strangeness at its best. Next to "Big Eyes, Small Mouth" this game sets the tone, pace, and standrad from any game in this Genre. Fast to start up and extremely flexible Character, and Mecha build system, its allows you to replicate any Anime Saga ( with or without Mecha).
