Infinite Galaxies Core Rules
by Callum R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/23/2023 15:00:04

I love this ruleset and play it regularly. Infinite Galaxies is an amazingly multipurpose system that has proven itself (despite it's scifi trappings) to be remarkably settings-agnostic; to the point that I have used it for settings as varied as pulp WW2 adventures, amodern-day sci-fi scuba campaign   (with a touch of Jeffrey A Carver), and of course, its namesake ... role-playing in a broght future.

I have used it for survival in the wilds - I have used it for sky pirates - I've used it for Nausicaa style settings and in one case used it to throw the players into the battle of Agincourt (time travel schennanagens, naturally) and not only did it not break, but it could have worked for longer play.

Granted, for a full campaign, anything before the turn of the 19th century is probably pushing it to breaking point, and

ure, you need to rename "laser rifle" to "rifle" occasionally, but the underlying moveset is so refined that it works pretty much out the box for just about anything!

As you would expect of a good PbtA rules system, the moves are tight, on-point, and narratively driven. This is Dungeon World but in Space (or in my case in anywhere post-gunpowder)

The art is charming, though it has a pulp scifi vibe, and the text well-explained and well thought out

I heartily advise this to anyone wanting a multi-purpose Sci-Fi PbtA system!

Infinite Galaxies Core Rules

tl;dr: The rules are great. If you love Dungeon World but wanted to be in Space; you'll be happy. My complaint is with the phsyical copy of the book. Not the rules itself.

I really love the PbtA system. Was first introduced through Dungeon World, and this game is no different. I feel a lot of the same things that DW has going are in this book as well. Except, Sci-Fi!

I've read the rules and we created characters over the weekend. Everything went smooth with only a few times having to reference the pdf (I hadn't received my physical book yet)

So the reason I gave this product a 3-Star is because of the physical book. I'm not sure who is at fault, if it was a printing issue or the formatting of the book by the creator. But the margins close to the spine are non-existent. Some pages you can manage by pulling the book a little extra. There are other times where I just can't read the inside words/information due to the lack of a margin. One of the most notable issues are on any pages with a table and the table of contents itself. I can't read what page numbers are being referenced.

I don't know if this will be resolved (as of writing this review, I noticed you can no longer purchase a physical copy of the book, so maybe they are working on it) but we'll see. If it does, I will gladly come back and update my rating.

Infinite Galaxies Core Rules

I've had SO much fun playing Infinite Galaxies! I had the privilege of playtesting it before its Kickstarter campaign and Rory MacLeod had so many great ideas that changed the way I play and run Powered By the Apocalypse games. In that game, I played a hot shot Ace, which was really fun. I had my own ship! I've also played Infinite Galaxies with my regular weekly D&D group and we all had a great time. In that game, I played a Psi. The playbooks hit all the important sci-fi archetypes. The built-in setting is also perfect in terms of flexibility for your game.
