I have not yet received the hardcover proof. It takes longer to arrive. I can't approve the POD without a proof. Should be within a week or so. |

This game will always be one of the best games that most have never played. Everything from the class design to hew crawl elements are amazing.

Lots of useful tables linked to the core SD rules. Very handy.

There's a lot here, it's well organized, and it's inexpensive. But for something presented as a Shadowdark setting, I think it's important to know that a huge portion of the book is replacement player options. They fit the theme, but I don't think they're an upgrade from SD's core options.
As far as the actual Shadowsun world goes, we get a ten-thousand-foot view of the whole continent—literally, in the book's one gorgeous map, and in many very brief write-ups of individual adventure sites and city-states. But there's little or nothing to connect them to one another, and there isn't enough detail on any one location to give you much to work with. (The continent map doesn't provide a scale, but it's clearly vast, so attempting travel from one region to another would be a major undertaking... or just a TPK.)
Maybe the idea is that you use Shadowsun to run old Dark Sun adventure modules, with those providing ground-level details. If that's what you're looking for, this might be a good fit for you. If you just want to run Shadowdark, you'll get far more mileage from one of Arcane Library's Cursed Scroll zines.

Fantastic addition to Shadowdark. My players greatly enjoyed the expanded class and ancestry options. I really think the equipment and spell catalyst additions are very fitting.
Looking forward to the GM focused book!

I've heard people say they get it in about 2-3 weeks, but it could be longer. |

First off, the d6 HP for every class is something I didn't expect to immediately sink it's fingers into me. Wizards always had low dice and Fighters always had high in my mind.
But then I took time to take on the philosophy of A&A2e, everyone in the band are tough sorts, but they all exist in a lethal world. The random ability scores show a particular character of going past (or below) the norm, rather than something that is an inherent boost to the number based on ones mindset on delving and getting rich.
The Hirelings, Henchmen and Followers rules are simple and effective. A followers stats being on their class page has made it very easy for me (and my players, more importantly) to double check on the numbers if they swap out a follower for a fresh one.
This is an amazing game, both as an intro to OSRs and as a mainstay game to play on its own.
(For some reason, DTRPG has double posted this review on my end, apologies!)

The author clearly takes time to honor both Shadowdark and Skyrim, two fantastic games. The book is really neat and I look forward to trying ouut a Skyrim themed game.

I haven't made it all the way through the book just yet, but what I have read has been easy and fun to read and understand. Makes Shadowdark even more brutal. I don't try to run other people's settings, but I might give this one a shot. At the very least, it's given me a lot of food for thought about water.
The only negative I've seen so far is the spell that allows spells to become permanent. Less than five minutes from the time it took to realize that was a spell had my son slip into "breaking the game" mode. I'd probably keep that out of the game.
