My second EABA setting (Nocturne was my first) and this exceeded my expectations. I expected a fairly generic low-magic, post-apocalyptic setting for the EABA system. What I got was detailed, interesting, unique, and very playable.

I have only run a short adventure so far, but my players are keen for more. They want to explore this world - even knowing what a dangerous place it is. I think that's the sign of a good setting - the players actually want to know more about it.

Nocturne is the reason I bought EABA - I wanted to run a good, dream-based setting with a decent set of rules.

I was definitely not disappointed. The integration of the dream world into the mundane is very well handled. The dream-specific skills work well in practice - my players had great fun trying to invent tactics that would achieve their desired results in the dream world.

I know that the author - Greg Porter - calls himself "infrastructure guy" but he write really interesting settings. (See my comments on Ythrek also.)

The details of the dream setting, and the antagonists - the mysterious Others - are very well written and make many possible plotlines leap out at me. This is an excellent setting to use for a time travel campaign. The concepts are well thought out, and the CORPS system is well-suited to modeling many different time periods. A pretty good universal systeme, easy to understand, quick to fix. Sowhere between Fuzion and D6 from WEG. The core rule lacks of more sample.

This is an incredible find! I am not that familiar with EABA, but what has been created here is a very simple, very straightforward, very easy game that can be played anywhere. How many times have you been driving a car full of gamers on a long trip and been wishing that you could run a game without having to wrestle with books (or even one book) or dice (or even one die)? For me, the answer is "many times". Finally, this system is here to help out.

The system is chiefly diceless point-comparison with small amounts of randomness introduced through two rounds of rock-paper-scissors. Character sheets fit on a business card (!) and if you use the form in the book you also get a cheat sheet when you fold it up. You literally can carry your character in your wallet. That leads me to think this could make a great LARP system as well!<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: This product sets out to do one thing - be a simple, fast game you can play anywhere, and it succeeds greatly.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Some pregenerated characters or NPCs, and a sample scenario or two (also on that business-card sized paper) would push this product over the top.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

A very good post-apocalyptic setting with overtones of the Matrix and GURPS Reign of Steel. You do need EABA for this, but anything that gets one away from d20 serves well.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Like much science fiction in this last decade or so, it fails to act on the "courage of its extrapolations", and instead prefers to limit technology's effect on the setting for dramatic effect. The future probably won't be comprehensible to today's citizens anymore than today would be comprehensible to someone from 1800.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

3G3 is overall a good suppliment. It's basically a really long physics model, converting it into a generic system (the infinitely and inanely complicated Time Lords system) which can then be converted into other systems.

Frighteningly, converting from the Time Lords system is the easiest part of the book.

It is nice for being able to produce new and interesting firearms (or recreate actual firearms if they're not emulated in your game), as well as rockets and missiles (and gyrojets, in fact), railguns, lasers, and particle beams. It also has systems for melee and muscle-powered ranged weapons.

It is a bit complicated (get good with Excel, 'cause otherwise it'll be painful). It also requires an in-depth understanding of your own game setting (the technological levels have to be really precicely detailed). Be prepared for math far more complicated than most algebra problems you find in gaming (for instance, there's a logorithm involved in converting damage values from the core system to Cyberpunk 2020).

This is not a suppliment for players, or even for GM's satisfied with running stuff from the book and not adding significant amounts to a game (adding a gun or two will not make this book worth it). It is for GM's who like in-depth detail and are willing to put a lot of effort into their game. More than likely, it's for GM's who are writing their own game settings.

This is a pretty good product, although you really should also pick up the Guns! Guns! Guns! book to go with it if you want your vehicle armament to have the same level of detail as the rest of the vehicle.<br> <br><b>LIKED</b>: Very meaty and in-depth construction set for vehicles. It appeals to me because I like knowing silly things like the power output of engines in watts and roughly how much of that actually goes towards moving the vehicle. This book's full of that sort of detail...and it seems pretty straightforward to convert the values in this book to other gaming systems.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: I think I should've bought the POD version instead, since the book has a pretty colorful layout and isn't gonna be cheap to print yourself. But that's really a minor thing.<br><br><b>FELT</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Having bought Nocturne when it was first released, I've only just gotten around to reading through it ... and, like all BTRC products, it is a quality effort and a very well done implementation of their EABA ruleset. As is often the case with BTRC products, the topic is rather "off the wall" ... a world-wide conspiracy of "dreamers" somewhat similar to PIG's "Ubidden" (but only somewhat), or like WW's "Wraith" (but even less so) crossed with Mage (maybe a little).

The rules are well presented and, importantly, work well, and the background detail is top notch. If you like a somewhat dark and mysterious modern day setting that is quite different from the usual thud and blunder genre, then Nocturne is it. And there's plenty of thud and blunder, too - just of a slightly more refined and intellectual nature :-)

Well worth the money!

Not bad. The rock n' roll cards were a bit dubious in usefulness but it was made up for with the obviously always useful sexual references. All in all, I found expansion set #2 more useful in my games but, hey, the thing is only a buck. Definately a good addition if you play F*ck This on even a semi-regular basis.
