Midnight Goblin Solo Gamebook - Hero Kids Compatible
von Bob V. G. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 03/18/2021 19:05:36

I just completed this adventure. I used different rules to play it (Planck by Norton Glover Games). There are some nice magic items to find. My goblin is now the leader of the clan. He wants to bring peace to this land. He also wants to have a cat as a pet . . .Good times!

The Magical Armory Solo Gamebook - Hero Kids Compatible
von Bob V. G. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 12/16/2020 21:12:21

The Magical Armory Gamebook is $1.50 at the moment on DriveThruRPG. This fun adventure is 84 pages long and has 90 “chapters”. There was a lot of combat (that is a good thing), but also attribute tests and skill tests. I decided to try it with FinalDungeon (free/pay what you want at DriveThruRPG . I rolled up an orc white mage. For this gamebook, I gave him a strength of 4, a wisdom of 5, a constitution of 3, and three hit points (other attributes equal one). I used the one hit equals one point of damage. So, a goblin has a STR 2 and CON 2 as does the shark slug. The orc had a STR 2 and a CON 3 (examples). My orc did find one golden item, but he was not able to keep it. He did come out of the adventure with three magic items. The most tense moment was when he was in a small dungeon and triggered a trap. He took damage, was poisoned, and was dying. He had to cast his cure poison spell. If the roll failed, he would have died. But he survived! Oh, and I did use a solo engine because I had some questions for the oracle. Have fun!

Final Dungeon is 46 pages long. Everything is done with a ten-sided die. There are seven races and seven classes. There is no list of spells, weapons, armor, and monsters. I can understand why there is no list of monsters. As a game master, I would look at how the players did their characters and then I would build the monsters. Give this a try!

The Smugglers' Port Solo Gamebook - Hero Kids Compatible
von Bob V. G. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 12/12/2020 15:14:09

So, this was the first time that I used the Hero Kids RPG system. It worked out great. This adventure is 90 pages long and has 105 “chapters”. I used the Brute character from the original rule set. There was a lot of combat (that is a good thing), but also attribute tests and skill tests. My brute did not make it all the way to the end. He was killed by Lord Zantar’s two attack droids. I had a great time. I have played many Tunnels & Trolls solo adventures over the years, but this was much better. Gave this a try!

The Magical Armory Solo Gamebook - Hero Kids Compatible
von Travis S. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 07/11/2020 10:55:31

This solo game is a lot of fun. There are less entries/paragraphs (author calls these sections) than your run-of-the-mill gamebook, however, these entries were MUCH longer and more detailed than most standard gamebook entries. This solo outing is chalk full of fighting and skill checks. You will be rolling dice a lot! Almost every section has multiple choices to make, and there are no dead-ends. The player is always allowed a roll if they make a “bad” choice. This was such a great addition. Many of the gamebooks I have read will have an entry that goes something like this “if you grab the troll’s beard turn to 42” and once you turn to 42, you die without getting an attempt to roll the die. The author’s approach gives the reader more freedom in making choices, without sweating over whether they are making an incorrect choice. The author compares it to the 80’s gamebooks. True, but golly is this gamebook easier than what I played as a kid. This is a Hero Kids gamebook, however, so the level of challenge seems suitable to the audience. Not only do you always have chances to roll dice when things get dicey, but throughout the narrative you will find upgrades and equipment that make the game less difficult. As for the aspect of replayability, if a player makes different choices on each playthrough, the player will see more than 90% of the gamebook after two complete readings, which is what I did. So you or your kiddo will get in about a maximum of two playthroughs on this book. Not terrible, but also not super replayable. An average complete playthrough will take about two hours, which is on par with most of your better gamebooks. And a fun two hours it is, as you find some typical high fantasy tropes mixed with some fun kookier elements.
Up for special mention, is a highly fun, seemingly intentional, gameplay loop that you can engage in about midway through the book. There is a mountain entrance where you have the option of going right or left. Upon making your choice, you learn that your option could be a bad choice. The book allows you to go back to the mountain entrance, and try the other option, where you learn that your other option could be a bad choice too. Then the book allows you, if you wish, to bounce back and forth between both options before fully committing to one. When I read this scene to my daughter, she had a hoot going back and forth before finally committing to one of the paths. In closing, this is a good gamebook. I am not familiar with Hero Kids adventures, but I have a strong understanding and appreciation of gamebooks and solo play. If you have a child that wants to conduct solo play, or you are interested in Hero Kids, this will be a worthwhile investment.

The Village Monster - A Hero Kids Compatible Adventure
von David T. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 05/02/2020 14:41:22

A fun, dark, and unique kids adventure. Many children's RPG adventures are purposefully railroaded to keep kids focused and engaged. The Village Monster is no exception, but it does it a tad differently. Several times diring the game, the players will have to make decisions that cause small changes to the environment, characters, or combat. The changes aren't huge, and the adventure ends the same way no matter what choices are made, but it grant the kids the feeling of having more control over the world around them.

I enjoyed this characteristic, and I really enjoyed the story. It is well-written, and it has a pretty good twist about halfway through the game.

Warbands and Warfare
von Johnathan S. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 10/22/2019 11:09:23

This is very much a simple wargame, and not a traditional wargame. There is no unit movement. The game is divvied up into ranged and melee turns, with only some characters being able to conduct attacks from range. Even though it is simple, there is enough different units available to provide a wide variety of different playstyles. This game is easy enough for a kids to pick-up, but provides just enough combinations of different troops to give the game some longevity. The historical descriptions of the different soldiers was also neat.

Bix Six Hero Kids Bundle
von Ryan H. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 09/18/2019 13:33:22

I usually don't mention my own background in reviews, but this time I feel it's necessary to convey the weight of what I am writing. I am a publishing industry professional who has worked in both children's and adult fiction with three big name publishers. I am relatively inexperienced in RPGs, but I know excellent work when I see it. Both of these adventures are excellent work. Period.

The writing is refined. The layout is engaging. The artwork may look simplistic to an adult eye, but this is the type of imagery that connects with kids. Kids don't need complexity, they need character, and the artwork here has plenty of character. Most importantly, these adventures are fun. Isn't that the bottom line?

I'm thrilled to have found Bix Six here on this site, and I want others to understand the value of the micro-adventures this family company is producing.

This is an excellent little adventure. The creative team that put it together has provided all the resources you need. The story is action-focused, the artwork is perfect for the target age group, and IMO the value far outweighs the cost. Keep your eye on Big Six!

Agents of Dracula - A Mini-RPG
von Johnathan S. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 08/19/2019 10:50:20

Its what it states itself to be in the description. It’s a micro-RPG that plays like games like Honey Heist and other small time RPGS. Nothing epic or earth-shattering. Just a fun and simple game. I played it with my group between sessions of 5E and all had a good time. There was lots of laughter with everyone enjoying what they were doing. The players really enjoyed playing as the different monsters. We played it as a silly oneshot instead of as a dark oneshot.

Unicorn Heist - A Hero Kids Compatible Adventure
von Mark S. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 07/01/2019 13:28:27

This was a fun little adventure. It was really very fast-paced and enjoyble. I enjoyed the monster descriptions. The unicorn was not as present as much as I would have liked, but this was definitely made up for in the rescue scene. The story was not predictable for my kids. There were several unexpected twists and turns as the unicorn gets snatched by several different enemies before the kids have to fight the big bad.

Unicorn Heist - A Hero Kids Compatible Adventure

My two kids loved this adventure! My son (8) really likes the encounters and this adventure has plenty. My daughter (5) loves being able to save a beautiful magical unicorn from the evil lich. As a parent and as the person running the adventure for them I enjoyed the ease and flow of the story and the helpful roleplaying ideas as well as how easy it was to jump right into without a ton of prep time. This adventure also has a lot of diffrent enemies and it is fun to watch how the kids react to them diffrently. I give this adventure 5 stars because it is everything I look for in a RPG for my kids!

Dark Elves' Lair - A Hero Kids Compatible Adventure
von Ask E. S. [Verifizierter Käufer] Hinzugefügt am: 01/24/2019 01:06:57

We liked the darker, slightly different feel from the majority of the Hero Kids modules. As a DM I also liked that it scales all the way up to 6 players. We are usually 5 players and most readymade modules have pre-made stats up to 4 players. For my group it is too long for one session, The kids I play with could not (read: can never) concentrate for more than 1.5 hrs. After that we need to be done. So with 6 encounters we split it into two sessions. All in all we really enjoyed the adventure.

I really enjoyed just reading the content not to mention that my kids are going to love this adventure. The tips for the GM help a lot with prepareing the story and also help the GM and the players really get whats happening which helps everyone at the table get into the story line and understand where their characters are as well as what they are doing. I highly reccomend this adventure for new groups/GMs however all groups will really enjoy. The storyline flows very well and the art work is pretty awesome.
