Cities Without Number

The world is neon and dust.

There is nothing more than the flesh. There is nothing greater than the wires. There is nothing to dream that is not sold and nothing to worship that is not made. It is a mirrorshade world of human reflections, every red hunger and every black passion worshiped in cathedrals of glass and greed. The great love their sins like children and the least want only to be great. Who could hope for more?

Cities Without Number is a cyberpunk role-playing game built for sandbox adventures in a dystopia of polished chrome and bitter misery. It's both a full-fledged Sine Nomine toolkit for building a cyberpunk world of your own and an Old School Renaissance-inspired game system for playing out the reckless adventures of the desperate men and women who live in it. Whether polished metal or flesh and blood, your operators will risk their lives and more to seize those precious things a merciless world would keep from them.

In its pages, you'll find...

  • An old-school inspired game system that's fully compatible with the sci-fi Stars Without Number game and its fantasy sister-game Worlds Without Number
  • Cyberware and sophisticated high-tech gear suitable for chroming the most discriminating cyborg and equipping the most refined of street operators
  • Playability-focused hacking rules designed to give hacking-focused PCs useful and important things to do without forcing an entire separate mini-game on the GM
  • Gear rules for drones and vehicles, to better equip PCs who want to bring a little extra iron on their next mission
  • System-neutral Sine Nomine worldbuilding tools for helping a GM create their own custom cyberpunk world or elaborate the details of existing worlds and settings
  • Gang, corp, and city district creation tools for fleshing out your world with people and places that fit
  • Fifty Mission Tags for adventure creation, plus guidelines and step-by-step procedures for handling facility infiltrations, managing local heat, selling loot, and other activities beloved of corp-hating street scum everywhere
  • The default campaign setting of the City, a premade backdrop to help you get into the game as quickly as possible

And that's just in the free version of the game. In this deluxe edition, you'll also be getting...

  • Cyberware quirks and features for particular megacorp product lines
  • Variant gengineered human types for PCs who don't fit the baseline mold
  • Optional rules for the psychological strain of Cyber Alienation
  • Optional rules for cheap street cyber, for those campaign settings where every goon with a knife has some wire beneath his skin
  • Spellcasting, spirit summoning, and magical items for GMs who want to add a dash of magic into their cyberpunk world

For more than a decade, the Without Number games have given GMs and players the tools they need to forge their own sandbox worlds. Cities Without Number adds to that, so get it now and build a dystopia that's all your own.

[A word on art: All art in this book was either made by myself or bought from an artist. Those filler pieces that were bought from Adobe Stock were bought with a filter that excluded AI art. Unfortunately, not all artists respect that categorization. I have chosen to mark this product as containing AI-generated art simply because I cannot absolutely guarantee that it is without it.

Welcome to the cyberpunk dystopia.]

Just read this …
“ An international elite of hereditary
megacorp families has formed a new caste of rul-
ers and oligarchs. Lesser breeds can only hope to
attach themselves to some powerful dynasty and
reap the rewards of loyal service. People take it
as a commonplace that these elites are smarter,
better, and wiser than ordinary people, a state
perhaps justified by cyberware or gengineering.”

Is this where we are heading in the world today?

So are the Magic and Spell-Casting among the three games "Cities/Stars/Worlds" basically reprints or is it a good amount of new supernatural powers and such material per book, including that Space Magic supplement?

It's a new system tuned for typical magic-cyberpunk power levels.

Why does this book cost so much for so few pages? I can understand for Worlds Without Number since it was 400 pages, but this book is just barely over half that amount. It should be much, much more affordable.

You're not paying by the page, you're paying for the work put into it.

Why isn't the PDF listed as DELUXE version, if there are multiple versions of it (the complete FREE one, the light version, etc)? I feel scammed by the sale tbh, I had to choose between this and another one as I can't afford much, if I knew it was simply a deluxe who added zero to nothing I honestly would've changed plans

It's unfortunate that you feel misled; the book's description lists what is in the free version and what is in this deluxe version, but it may not have been clear enough. I've put in a support ticket to request DTRPG refund your purchase.

Hi, I did not get the right PDF when I bought this. It instead gave me 'LRGG_Tome_Of_Twisted_Things_v1_1.pdf' in my library, which doesn't even have a file size associated with it and that I can't download

Cities Without Number rules are excellent and the table of contents is a lot lot better than Worlds Without Number.<br /><br />
Unfortunately the arts are a significant downgrade from WWN in quality. Perhaps it's from using AI too but they are not evocative enough to evoke the cyberpunk feel.

I think I've found a mistake in the book.

Under the Summoning Spirits section of the book, in step 4, it states that the spirit must be smaller than a rabbit or bigger than a horse, I think this is meant to be bigger than a rabbit but smaller than a horse.

Given what it says in the description for this game it would be amoral not to use AI art simply for the sake of integrity and cohesion.

It kind of does though. He means to say that it would only be fitting to use AI generated art in a book that's about a game where humanity is eaten by corporations and technology and sh1t out.

It really doesnt, the game having cyberpunk/AI themes doesnt mean hes duty bound to use AI art. The art is good, the book is good, idk why it has to be a moral issue that he made his own art.

There is always somebody wanting to argue. It’s not the future where humanity is shot. It’s now.

The disclaimer makes sense and I accept that this dev did his best to assure that his art is organically-generated. I applaud his effort and his disclaimer. This is the positive trend I'm hoping for in the face of the use of AI art.

Going to be grabbing this one next paycheck! I know it's a lot of work, but are there any plans to release a GM screen? I understand it will be a while, if so, but the SWN one is incredibly useful!

The form fillable character sheet has a couple of quirks: The font is big for a small space like Background and Foci. Also, the ability modifiers do not go to +3, which some characters can achieve.

The font autoscales down as you type more text. The ability score dropdowns don't include -3 or +3 because the ability score scale right above them only goes from -2 to +2, and it's unwise to confuse a new player into wondering what they've missed when they see a different scale on the dropdown. If they do get the mod somehow, they can just type it into the blank.

Being a total genius, I just managed to buy the Hardback without PDF, despite it costing the same with it. Is there any way to reverse my stupidity, or is it too late?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
