Compendium doesn't list compatibility with latest version of FoundryVTT. Dev and vendor haven't responded to complaints about it being abandoned, does anyone have experience with this working in 25?

It does not work and has all of the same errors. Publisher and maintainer are radio silent and ignore all attempts to contact about this issue. There's no indication this will ever be updated and it should probably be removed from this website.

When will this module be updated for foundryvtt ver 12?

Unfortunately it won't be updated, this system is no longer being maintained. The product probably shouldn't be listed on this website anymore.

I'm getting set up to run Dolmenwood and am curious if there is enough flexibility to add the additional character options that are available? Are there ways that dolmenwood specific races and other options could be customized into these character sheets? Thanks!

I'm having some issues with installation.
Basically the classic game seems to be contained in the classic module, but the advanced features are missing despite the game system being applied to the world I have created. Am I missing something? Is there an advanced compendium there which I need contained in a module like the classic game?

The Classic game is a "system". This is a "module". You have to activate it, and then everything is in compendiums.

Some monsters are conspicuously absent from the module, such as the Green Dragon, Harpy, and Chimera. These creatures are just a few examples of the notable omissions. Regrettably, the wilderness encounter tables are nowhere to be found. Instead, a macro has been inserted, though the actual tables are absent. This means that if you intend to utilize the OSR helper travel automation, you will be required to generate a new table and manually transfer monsters through a drag-and-drop process. Additionally, you'll need to meticulously review the monsters PDF and input the missing creature details.

Moreover, all of the monsters are devoid of accompanying art. Although not an absolute necessity, including artwork is, at the very least, an anticipated feature of premium modules. On the whole, the module leaves much to be desired. The absence of monsters is particularly disheartening. Equally concerning is the absence of fundamental tables, which are integral to the core gameplay experience. Replacing these...See more

I e-mailed the developer and I recieved this response:

"Marco, thanks for writing. It's important to me to be able to receive feedback gracefully, and most importantly, to satisfy every criticism so that I can continue to make the modules even better.

I have confirmed that those three monsters were previously missing. They will be included in the latest update, due out tomorrow. This update contains a number of fixes, including some other missing monsters people have noticed. There's not really good testing in place to make sure everything is there, since everything was made by hand, but I've since thought about a couple quick tests I can do to make sure we have the right number of monsters in there before every release.

The encounter table issue has also been brought up in the past, and I'm in the middle of resolving it. The current solution, providing only one place where encounters can be rolled, stems from not being satisfied with the problem of maintaining updates...See more

Does this include any tools for automating time keeping?
Reply
Customer avatar
Anthony R August 29, 2023 5:57 pm UTC
Foundry VTT has lots of different free add-on modules to help with automating timekeeping. I don't keep a list, and I can't personally guarantee that your favorite will always be supported anyway, but I suggest a quick look through Foundry's module list for some ideas. And if you have a particular request for the OSE game system, feel free to ask away.

is there any plan to add the race field in the sheet?
Reply
Customer avatar
Anthony R August 29, 2023 6:01 pm UTC
There is a planned sheet redesign in active development which includes support for the optional race field. For now, since it is a text input box, you can enter both the race and class in the same input box. You can currently view that here: https://github.com/vttred/ose/issues/97

Does this add a new character sheet for splitting race/class? How's it handled in the system?
Reply
Customer avatar
Anthony R August 29, 2023 5:59 pm UTC
Hi, the current suggestion for class+race characters is to import all of that character's abilities (there is no limit to the kind or number of abilities you can support) and to calculate your HP either manually or by entering a custom roll formula in the hit-die box. This will improve in the future, but it shouldn't stop you from getting started. We are very open to people submitting specific requests.

Doesn't appear to be any support for multi-class characters. Is that planned? Is there a public github/lab page we can follow to log issues?

Was a little dissapointed to discover not all the monsters from the Referee tome is included in this module. And there are also discrepancies with monster stat blocks in the Referee tome. Is this intentional, or should I log an issue to have this fixed.

Otherwise it is an excellent product.

Hi, VTT content developer here! Based on your message I believe you have the same issue as Paul C below. I gave Paul step-by-step instructions on installing a module in foundry via email, and I'll replicate those here. If there's additional issues don't hesitate to email me at [email protected]

1. Ensure that the Foundry VTT core version is V11. V10 and lower are not supported.
2. Ensure that the Foundry VTT core software key you used to activate Foundry VTT and the OSE: Advanced Fantasy software key both belong to the same account.
3. Go to Foundry VTT's setup page, the page accessible before entering a game world, and go to Add-On Modules -> Install a Module. You will most easily find Advanced Fantasy by typing "Advanced Fantasy" in search or by filtering by Premium Modules. You must install the module to use it.
4. Advanced Fantasy requires OSE 1.8.0 or greater. Update OSE if you haven't updated in a while. When you enter your OSE game world don't be too...See more

Is this ever going to include the Carcass Crawler content? Or will that possibly be a separate release?
Reply

Anthony R June 23, 2023 9:58 am UTC
Hi, VTT content developer here! Carcass Crawler is planned but due to a temporary technical limitation, it did not make sense to offer at the same time as the other releases.

Our goal is to provide all of Necrotic Gnome's VTT products where the content is a 1:1 match with the PDF releases. So we're planning a release of each Carcass Crawler zine for VTT a little later on.

Hi, I'm the VTT content developer for Necrotic Gnome's Foundry modules. I understand the feeling, and I hope to help anyone who can't justify the price with alternatives that will help them play Advanced Fantasy without the need for an official module.

First: you could add monsters, spells, and equipment to your game only as you need them, using your PDF or physical book as a reference. There's really no need to have them all in Foundry already unless you don't own Advanced Fantasy in another format. Of course, having them entered into Foundry VTT saves you hundreds of hours of time in the long run, but it probably only takes 10 minutes/week of game prep time if you enter only what you need for one session.

Second: Someone in the OSE on Foundry VTT community has created a macro that allows you to create monsters one at a time from a plaintext statblock. For those who can't make the extra expense but *must* have a full monster compendium for some reason, it's a minor time saver so I encourage...See more

Where do I report issues with the module?
I've noticed that almost every table in the compendium - the formatting is out. I'm running Foundry V11 with no other modules activated.

Thanks for the report! Yes, I'm not happy with the table formatting in general, as over the last couple years the in-Foundry table editor had changed quite a bit and as a result we've been left to redo tables in many places. I hope to change how we do formatting for Journal Entries in a later update that will, among other things, allow us to standardize layout across all tables so that this doesn't happen to any of the tables anymore. In the meantime if there's a table that's for any reason unreadable definitely report it: [email protected].

Thanks for the reply and I look forward to seeing a fix. Just FYI. I went in and had a look at a few of the tables and it's literally a case of you've formatted each table cell as 'left justification', instead of 'centre justification'. I changed the formatting to 'centre' on the tables I looked at and the columns lined up no problem. So all you have to do is have someone go through all the tables and make sure all the relevant cells are centred. Easy fix.

Is this ever going to be fixed? The free OSE SRD module has all the tables formatted properly but the PAID version is still out of alignment.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
