Little but Fierce (Starter Edition)

Auf die Wunschliste >

Little but Fierce banner

"And though she be but little, she is fierce."

— Helena in William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream

"Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is."

— Yoda in George Lucas’ Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Little but Fierce is based on the popular 5th Edition ruleset but it has been simplified and streamlined to become easily accessible to kids as young as six (but still plenty of fun for those who are one hundred and six!). The changes cover three main areas:

  • Rules, ensuring that unnecessarily complicated rules have either been simplified or removed entirely, keeping the spirit of 5E there without the scope for pedantic "rules lawyering"
  • Language, making sure that both key terminology and prose explanations are as simple as possible, so that either a young child can read this themselves or a parent can read it to them with minimal need for paraphrasing
  • Tone, keeping the fantasy fun but avoiding unnecessary mentions of more adult concepts such as death or potentially controversial ones like fantasy deities

What's included in this book?

  • All the core rules you need to play a game of Little but Fierce (or even a full campaign from levels 1 to 10!)
  • A comprehensive Storyteller's toolkit, for Storytellers of all ages, including general advice, ways to tailor your game to your players and use of safety tools
  • 4 core classes: druid, fighter, mage and thief
  • 10 unique kin: birdfolk, dragonfolk, dwarf, elf, faun, gnome, goblin, halfling, human and orc
  • Lists of selectable talents, both general and class-specific
  • All the basic equipment you'd expect plus 20 magic items
  • 180 spells, for use by druids and/or mages
  • 70 pre-made creatures for use by both Storytellers and players
  • Blank hero sheets and two example hero sheets to help players young and old learn the system
  • Digital linking throughout to provide quick and easy navigation through the PDF

Preview Pages

Making Your Hero preview

A preview of the Making Your Hero chapter, showing how the traditional 5E abilities and skills have been streamlined, both in quantity and language. Icons are used both here and on the hero sheet for ease of use with children who struggle with their reading.

Kin preview

A preview of the Making Your Hero chapter, providing a range of options for players to choose from when making their characters. Players are encouraged to "mix and match" from these tables if they want to create heroes from families of many kin (whether that be parents of different kin or an adopted hero).

Spells preview

A preview of the Spells chapter, showing some of the simple spells (replacing cantrips), using the streamlined rules and language, with easy pictoral reminders of which classes can select these spells.

Safety Tools preview

A preview of the Safety Tools section of the Having Fun chapter, showing some suggested tools that Storytellers can use to ensure that all players are enjoying the game. This chapter assumes the Storyteller could be either a parent/guardian adult of the players or a child of a similar age, providing advice on avoiding assumptions and misconceptions.

Hero Sheet preview

A preview of one of the example Hero Sheets, showing how the hero sheets can be filled out. This one is based on the heroine shown on the front cover, who is inspired by the writer's 2-year-old daughter.

Hello,
Very interested in this, but can the mechanics be converted back to d20 (instead of d10) fairly easily?

Hmm… shouldn’t be too bad. Off the top of my head, you’d just need to +5 to all printed difficulties, as well as the calculation for difficulty related stats such as Defence and Spell Force

Played this with a 9 year old and a 6 year old and now the 9year old wants to start her own campaign, and the 6 year old has named her magical pet. Perfect intro to RPGs for any age.

Eingescanntes Buchformat
