so, what does Luck do? When is it tested and how would its use be justified over testing Body / Mind, or just rolling Ordure, which I thought to pretty much be the luck roll in this game?

also, a question on max skill/attributes. Page 9 says: "...increasing one Skill or Attribute by 1 (up to a value of 4)", but the character sheet has _/5 across the board; so, is it 4 or 5?

Hello, thanks for the question!

Ordure test might be thought of as luck/lack of lack of luck for the whole group of PCs, where as Luck is the luck of one PC. Luck is for anything that might be outside of the PCs Mind or Body to affect the outcome of a test. You might test Luck if a PC fell off a cliff - to see if SOMEHOW they landed on something soft. Or if a someone/something the PC was looking for happened to be in the place they were looking.

Hope this clarifies!

So attributes can only be increased to a value of 4 through the levelling up process (this is the "natural" maximum of an attribute). Attributes can increased to a maximum of 5 through "unnatural" means, such as finding a magic item, receiving a powerful enchantment, etc.

thank you for your quick clarifications! Getting a 5 in a stat only via diegetic means makes a lot of sense. I'll have to meditate on the use of Luck and what it means in terms of player agency -- it could be a very powerful tool in the hands of a clever player.

I'm not quite clear on how the "Curse" ability of the Curate works. Curses are, typically, something you afflict on others - but here they seem to be something you give yourself to grant the effect listed? And how do multiple curses work? There's only one effect listed, so wouldn't additional curses be moot?

Hi James,

The Curate's curse ability makes all Tests AGAINST a target Easy. If any enemy is cursed by the Curate, all the player's rolls will be Easy (roll two d6's and use the best result) when they are trying to attack them, trick them, push them down a hole, etc.

From the book:

"Curse: You make all Tests against a target Easy. A Curate may have a maximum of their level Curses active at once."

If the Curate was Level 3, they could have either have 3 different curses affecting three different enemy beings, or they could even curse 1 enemy 3 times, meaning that if for example, a player attacked that enemy, when they rolled the attack Test they would roll 4 times and use the best result of the four.

I hope that clarifies it for you!

That makes perfect sense! Thank you for the prompt reply and clarification! You have an excellent, light, rule set here. I wish I could leave a review (I can't because I'm a publisher).

Love this!! I can't post a review because I'm a publisher too, but this is a great game. Can't wait to run it.

Is there a print version available anywhere?

Glad you're into it! Let me know how the game goes.

Should be a POD version eventually, I'll let you know as soon as that is the case and try and get you a discount somehow for already owning the PDF version.

Is there any chance that XXX Future is going to be collected and made POD, either here or on Lulu?

Yes, S. word future is currently having art done for it by Matthew Adams (who did the art for the Star Dogs Referee's Handbook: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/304127/Star-Dogs--Referees-Handbook). I need to write a few more tables but that is definitely coming. I'm toying with the idea of going all out for that release - maybe getting some one to do some fancy layout.

Awesome! I'm *very* glad you went with Matthew Adams. Art means a lot to me, yet few modern game artists do I enjoy, he's honestly top of my list. I follow your blog some and Star Dogs has become my default sci-fi game, so now I'm *really* looking forward to SHlT Future. Please keep folks posted and my order will be placed the moment it's POD. Finally some good news in 2020, thank you.

I didn't know you did the art for this, but it's great and that's high praise coming from me, I'm ruthlessly picky about art and have refused to buy far more gaming books than I've actually bought because of the artwork. I don't normally buy pdf's either, but I'm very glad I did this time. Thank you for making cool stuff. All Hail Mighty Gorgzu!

Well, it means dung haha. It's called "Ordure Fantasy" because it's based on the rules I made for a cyberpunk game called "XXX Future" (http://lizardmandiaries.blogspot.com/2020/04/XXX-future-d6-cyberpunk.html), so it's the same naming convention but not as crass as being called "XXX Fantasy"!

I knew what it meant, I was just checking you did! :-)

I've seen a new mapping tool released recently called "Dungeonplop", which any British child under 12 (or 50yo who hasn't grown up yet) will tell you is hilarious.

(For those who don't know "plop" is childish UK slang analagous to "poop". Also LOLling that OBS has censored Sierra Hotel India Tango in your reply.)

I was looking for an explanation, so thanks for laying one out. Perhaps you need to add a content warning. "For Manure gamers"? Soon as my bank balance settles I will be droppings some cash on your excrement looking game. :-D

Eingescanntes Buchformat
