ALIEN RPG Destroyer of Worlds

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The mission was a manhunt, the objectives clear—track down four fugitives, recover any assets they may have made off with, and keep ‘em all out of enemy hands. Go find them on a frozen moon full of hostiles and get it done on the eve of war.

Nothing you couldn’t handle.

But what it is that these bastards stole—and how the hell it got inside them—is another thing altogether. It’s all above your paygrade, marine—but somehow you’re the one who’s got to deal with it.

Of course, now there’s an invasion fleet incoming, and there’s something else, too—something much worse. Something out there hates you—hates everyone. Something big and ugly. Something with metal teeth—and you’re pretty sure it ain’t alone.
Yeah, the mission was supposed to be a simple manhunt. Instead it turned out to be just another glorious day in the corps.

Destroyer of Worlds is a complete Cinematic Scenario for the ALIEN roleplaying game, written by sci-fi novelist Andrew E.C. Gaska. In Destroyer of Worlds, players take the roles of Colonial Marines. The scenario is designed for 3–5 players plus the Game Mother, and it’s a gauntlet of one hell after another. Expect it to take three sessions to complete. This set contains:

  • The main Destroyer of Worlds scenario book.
  • A huge double-sided map of Ariaricus colony on one side and the Fort Nebraska space elevator ground base on the other.
  • Seven pre-generated characters to choose from.
  • Custom cards for weapons, vehicles, and personal agendas.
  • Player maps and handouts.

NOTE: The ALIEN RPG core rulebook OR the ALIEN RPG Starter Set is required to play Destroyer of Worlds.

re the cards in this actually printable, unlike the ones in the Starter set?
I tried to print them double sided, and they don't line up correctly. The formatting is off, the cards have the wrong backs if they are the exact same on the entire page. And on the last page, there is 1 card without a back and a back without a front. Poorly designed.

To give you an idea: we played the starter set cinematic scenario in 5 sessions of about 2.5/3 hours. We may be a little slower than others, but you'll get plenty of playtime from this.

I'd totally want to play this rpg/module as the Cyborg Marines from the Aliens vs Predators arcade game.

I'm still reading through the book, so maybe I'm missing something but...

What are the 2 yellow blobs on the maps? They look like some kind of weird ink blot. They're identical on both sets of maps and are just plopped randomly down on them.

Weird, I should add I only see it on the iPad with PDF Expert. So, probably a weird hidden layer that becomes automagically visible in some pdf viewers

There are 2 modes of play for the Alien RPG: campaign and cinematic. Cinematic scenarios are meant to be a one shot that delivers the action and intensity of the movies. This is a cinematic scenario which is why it has pregenerated PCs.

It can be played without the pregen PCs it would just require more work for the GM . The pregen PCs have already been given backstory and personal agendas.

Pregenerated characters? That would make the adventure a hard sell (and probably a hard pass) for my players.

You can always create new characters for the adventure. That's what my group and I did.

The cinematic scenarios are less about individual PC's and more about players as actors embodying characters.

People will die and you'll just hand them another character sheet then they'll suddenly be the villainous corp NPC you were just GMing.

The characters are pretty broad though, probably no reason you can't talk about adjustments and stuff for starting characters.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
