Blood Castle: A Dungeon Blitz Adventure Game

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Vardak Castle leers over the village of Greyhollow like a hungry vulture. For decades the villagers have shuttered their windows after dark and lived in fear of the evil that watches over them. You have journeyed along the Vova River to the haunted village, prepared to put a stop to whatever unnatural creature stirs in the cursed halls of the BLOOD CASTLE!

Dungeon Blitz is a new series of fast-playing solo adventure games.

In each adventure you create a character and undertake an exciting and dangerous dungeon crawl with little more than your trusty weapon and wits. All you need is some paper, a pencil and three six-sided dice. The dungeon is randomly generated and you will map it as you play. As you discover new locations you might be attacked by monsters, set off a trap or find wondrous treasure. Eventually, you will find the terrible monster at the heart of the dungeon and either defeat it or die trying!

Play the Dungeon Blitz books in any order. Carefully manage your resources, collect treasure and find wondrous magic items as you explore dangerous crypts and dark dungeons. If you survive the dungeon your hero will level up and set out on the road to their next exciting adventure!

The rules for monsters Ganging Up is a little confusing. Is this reinterpretation correct?

"In a room with multiple monsters, fight one at a time until it is defeated, then move on to the next monster in the listed order. Each monster receives an Attack check bonus equal to the total number of monsters in the room, minus one. For example, in a room with three monsters, each monster receives a +2 Attack check bonus (3 - 1 = 2). This bonus does not decrease as monsters are defeated."

Sorry for the confusion, Branden. Yes, your interpretation is correct.
However, I have also played it without that last line in your reinterpretation; instead, I reduce the enemy bonus each time a monster is defeated, so the final monster fought has no "ganging up" bonus". This is just something I fall into doing as my brain is counting down "one less monster, one less bonus". As I said, though, your reinterpretation is correct.

Any ideas on how to print this easily? It's in an odd format.

I was able to print this in zine format using 8.5" x 11" paper. My printer has settings to Print As Booklet. I selected only pages 2-23 to print, Double-sided, Layout option Print As Booklet or 2 Pages per Sheet, with the Layout Direction as "Left-Right-Top-Bottom", and printed. Then for the front and back cover I selected only pages 1 & 24 to print, then selected the Layout option Print As Booklet or 2 Pages per Sheet, then changed the Layout Direction to "Right-Left-Top-Bottom", and printed on red card stock. Turned out great!

I am not sure if I understand leveling up. Won't they just make the next books easier?

Hi Aaron, thanks for the question! Yes, it will make some actions easier (which is intentional), however, the level bonuses are relatively small and you are best to distribute starting Stats and level-ups relatively even in order to give yourself the best chance of success (all three Stats are important for different reasons). If you do just focus on one Stat, the randomness of the dungeons may mean you get caught out at a most inopportune time. :) The books can be quite challenging, so the bonuses are helpful but not necessarily game-breaking. If you are unsure about the impact of levelling on your continued enjoyment of future books, try playing through Blood Castle a few times with different levels of characters and see how you like it. (Once again, the randomness can make each play-through quite different.)

Having said that, if you want the books to "level up" as your character does, add a character's level to an enemy's Wound's total - this makes them much tougher and will deplete your...See more

Also, in "Den of Goblins", there is a suggestion that you can add +1 to a monster's Attack value for every 3 levels your character has (levels 3, 6 and 9). This is another good option, but can make combat quite lethal with a few bad rolls! :D

I just played thru the scenario and I really enjoyed it. The only headscratcher for me was the locked doors. I can see what's behind the locked door, and I don't know why I'm trying to get into this room with D3 Zombie Trolls in it. I think a better mechanic would be for a room to say it as a locked exit. Then you pick the lock, and roll on the chart to see what your encounter is, a future supplement could even have a special chart of say, 3 or so locked room encounters. Maybe those have a bonus to the treasure search roll?
I'm a big fan though. It was a good time.

Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate you taking the time to leave it.
You are quite right about the disconnect between unlocking a door to a room you really wouldn't want to enter! Having to unlock an exit s a good alternative and I will consider your suggestions when I write future books.
Cheers!

Just tried my first small walkthrough and have to say its very enjoyable, easy to get going, and im sure will be challenging as i get deeper. Will have a bigger dive into it later, but the small 30mins playthrough i just did makes me think this is a solid rpg

Awesome! Let me know how you go - it can be a bit random, but I find that fun. I was succeeding about 2 out of every 3 times I played through, depending on the dice rolls.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
