Mörk Borg English

Watermarked PDF

A doom metal album of a game. A spiked flail to the face. Light on rules, heavy everything else.

MÖRK BORG is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end? Confront power-draining necromancers, skulking skeletal warriors and backstabbing wickheads. Wander the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, the catacombs beneath the Bergen Chrypt or the bedevilled Sarkash forest. But leave hope behind - the world’s cruel fate is sealed, and all your vain heroic efforts are destined to end in death and dismay. Or are they?

MÖRK BORG is a complete game in the OSR genre, that can be played as is or be picked apart for use in your own homebrew. The rules are easily made compatible with most of the editions of the world’s largest role-playing game. Within the book you’ll find:

  • A brief look at this dying world. From The Two-Headed Basilisks’ gothic cathedral in Galgenbeck and Blood-countess Anthelia’s limestone palace, to the fields of death in Graven-Tosk and the barren wastes of Kergüs.

  • The Calendar of Nechrubel, that decides the speed of the world’s demise.

  • 20 occult Powers that let you bend reality, and just as many magical catastrophes for when you disastrously fail.

  • Optional rules which brings more depth to the game. Omens let you turn bad luck into a slightly better one. Classes with unique traits and quirks, and tables that will bring life into your character.

  • 12 creatures to be murdered by.

  • Game master tools such as tables for corpse plundering, occult treasure, adventure sparks, dungeon generating and other devilry.

  • The introductory dungeon crawl scenario Rotblack Sludge, where you investigate a forgotten part of the Shadow King’s enormous ruin palace. Cannibal warlocks, poison peddlers from beyond the void and hungry gutworms await.

MÖRK BORG is constructed by Pelle Nilsson (Ockult Örtmästare Games) and Johan Nohr (Stockholm Kartell). The game is published by Free League Publishing and is available in Swedish and English - the English text is edited and cursed by Patrick Stuart (Veins of the Earth, Silent Titans).

Staff Pick

MÖRK BORG is hardcore apocalyptic fantasy, but handled with a dynamic rules-light system that facilitates ease of access. The game makes character creation easy, which is great if any die (which they likely will!), yet while not losing the thread of the story or the flavor of the game itself.

This is a game of giving it your all and forging ahead with courage, grit, and awesome and occult powers. But it's also a fascinating story that features terrifying foes.

OBS_mere.pngThe artwork and layout are worth a mention too, bright and beautiful. In all, this is a very compact game that is easy to pick up, but with plenty of tools for the Dungeon Master.

The print quality, foiling, paper stock and tactile effects are a big part of this game's presentation and (currently) print on demand can't provide that.

Honestly it's such a great book. Worth getting if you can. Until you burn it of course.

How about a sale guys? I've been drooling over this one for a long time. But, the current price point is too rich for my blood. I bet if you ran a Deal of the Day you'd hit Mithral or Adamantine by the end of it.

Bah! That's still pretty rich for my grognard blood. But I can probably swing that, plus it might cheer me up to read about the darkness of the Mork Borg-verse when compared to the bleakness of our present dystopia.

Mork Borg is a complete tabletop roleplaying game contained in a digest-sized (approximately 6 inch x 8.5 inch) hardcover book of only 88 pages plus end papers. I say its complete because it includes a unique setting, a detailed set of game mechanics, a small bestiary, and even an introductory mini-dungeon crawl. So this thing is dense with information, and yet it still finds room for loads of art, creative layout, and lots of useful tables.

So what kind of RPG is it? Well, to give you a hint, Mork Borg is swedish for dark fort. So yes, this is a dark fantasy setting in which the world is ending soon. The setting background is provided over 15 pages, including an abstract map without scale, which shows the known world divided into 7 named areas, each with its own brief description. Keep in mind the pages are smaller and are laid out creatively with artistic flourishes, so don't expect a lot of detail here, just an idea or feeling of each place. The world of Mork Borg is a nihilistic, dying world...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
