In Epic Paths, all of the introduced races but Nymph are categorised as Monstrous Races. Is this intended or are Nymphs also considered monstrous races for the purposes of those paths?

The printer friendly version is in full color and is two pages wide. Please gives us a b&w version that prints one page on one page instead of two pages on one.

The Warlock Patron: the Fates expanded spell list grants planar binding for 5th level but Planar Binding is already warlock spell.

For the prophecy domain, does the level 2 Blessing of Foresight apply to ritually cast spells? Seems like a slight oversight in that I can just take a few minutes each time and give the temporary hp to every party member for free by ritually casting them?

I'm really looking forward to this. I sadly missed the Kickstarter, so I have a question about the setting. It is based on Greek myths (love it!), but one of my pet peeves in rpg settings is when the authors just import things from our own history, myths and stories into it without even changing names (the Mulhorand pantheon in Forgotten Realms and Baba Yaga in various other fantasy settings for example). How much of this is there in Odyssey of the Dragonlords? I've seen some of it, but I guess you won't meet Zeus or Athena or Hercules at any point?

It's more like Greek-flavoured. It follows more of the story-structure of the Greek myths than the myths themselves. So yeah, no Zeus, Athena or Hercules but you can play a Hercules inspired character and go on adventures inspired by Jason and the Argonauts (just not the same adventure).

Nice, I like it. I have seen some names being lifted directly from Greek myths though. Mostly monsters, but also Mount Olympus from a map in the game. But as long as there are no Greek gods or heroes being copied directly from the myths, I'm very happy with it. :)

When does the campaign launch; pdf and print? I could not find relevant information elsewhere. September dates on Kickstarter.

Starting the Game as Medusa - as a (Cursed One) character - massive social stigma and abilities are generally no better than any other race. The only ability that should cause any real fear (at level 5) being the signature paralyzing gaze requires you to use your action on the first attack - to force a creature to make a DC 8 CON save. A 5th level Monster gets a challenge rating save of +3 (assuming it has no CON bonus) so needs a 5 to succeed (75% chance of success) - and most monsters have reasonable CON bonuses, so will probably succeed 95% or more of the time - after you have wasted an action. Scales pretty much the same, so not a useful or very scary power given it wastes an action to use. As a consequence, it doesn't get used in play, since it just wastes an action and has in fact never come off - so when the 5th level player has a DC 14 on spells (most targeting attributes other than CON) that at least have a chance of coming off 50% or more of the time and a decent chance to hit them with a weapon,...See more

I missed the kickstarter, but I did make a late pledge. I have some confusion on the Epic Paths, in particular, the Haunted One. It says that the blessing for completing the path is magic resistance, but does not mention how that would interact with the Satyr's racial magic resistance. The flavor box underneath gives a story idea for Satyrs to take this path, but no alternate blessing.

Any updates on when the Kickstarter digital rewards will be delivered (and when this player's guide will be updated accordingly)?

I wouldn't expect this guild to get updated being it's free. The player's guide is $10.

Treat this one like WotC's free PDF of the basic rules for 5e.

So I grabbed this and backed the associated kickstarter, I have a critique on the Hoplite subclass.

1) On the shield wall for level 3 "The effect does not stack", does that mean...
A) If there is somehow more than one hoplite, the effects do not stack? Or...
B) If you have a shield and you're also next to someone else has a shield, you don't get both benefits or a extra +2 instead of just +1?

2) Optional fighting style: Hoplite.... so this is for your level 1 fighting style, correct?

3) Spear mastery is incredibly meh, it's great weapon fighting for spears/javelins, but at the end of the day it's messing around with just a D6, for true SPEAR MASTERY, why not also increase your spear to a 1D8? This is something people have talked about before, and wizards themselves once put out a UA with a spear mastery feat doing exactly that, I don't see an average of 1 damage increase or a max 2 damage increase is that much of a game breaker, do you? How about...See more

Hi Mark, thanks for your feedback! The Hoplite is currently undergoing revisions. Some quick answers: 1) It means A (one shield wall active at a time). 2) Yes, it's just to add to the list of fighting styles you can choose from. 3) Good suggestions. Though with Polearm Master now applying to spears, this starts to get very good. 4) It's not meant to require an action at all, as it was intended as a slightly-OP capstone. That feature may change to something more like the Hunter's Whirlwind Attack, though.

I would advise that The Way of the Shield include the more technical language under its feature Aresian Technique:
'Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with shields, and wielding a shield does not impede [...]'

As currently listed, it does not impart proficiency, which means the Monk has disadvantage on ability checks, saving throws, or attack rolls that involve Strength or Dexterity, and they can't cast spells.

I am very excited about this product following reading the player's guide!

Looks great. I've only skimmed the background so far but I'm excited to read more. The Epic paths are very cool.
Mechanically, Satyr's magic resistance seems a little powerful.
On the Hoplite archetype, Xiphos Mastery is great. But a free action seems kind of at odds with what I typically see in 5th. Should this be a reaction? Also, I get that Disciplined Defence is +2 because it's with a shield, but I can't help notice that a Paladin's Aura of Protection is based on CHA and has a wider reach, and thus gives more of a bonus. Maybe it would be better of based on a physical attribute modifier similar to the Paladin? Seeing as it's a higher level ability with a shorter range that doesn't feel like it would be too strong.
On the Way of the Shield tradition. Again, I get that Shell of the Dragon Turtle is +2 as it's based on a shield. But for 1 ki, should it not be closer to the strength of the spell shield? With +5 AC but no immunity to Force, it would be still weaker to that first level spell...See more

Hi Seán, thank you for the thoughtful feedback! We'll be making revisions to some of these features for the next edition of the Player's Guide. To address a couple of specifics: the Satyr's magic resistance is strong, but it has precedent in the Yuan-ti Pureblood. Satyrs have MR in the Monster Manual, so we felt that it was appropriate. Xiphos Mastery will probably be redesigned. Disciplined Defense is not intended to compete with Aura of Protection; it just gives this archetype some defensive utility. WotS gets more at 6th level to compensate. For Shell of the Dragon Turtle, we might increase the AC bonus, but monks are already pretty slippery. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

In the Legend of Creation of Thylea, the myths speak of seven pits, from six of which 6 gods are born, and from the last the two titans Sydon and Lutheria are born. These 6 gods are described as gods of strength (Pythor), beauty (Kyrah), wisdom (Vallus), craft (Volkan), prophecy (Mytros) and swiftness. However, earlier in the book only 5 gods are mentioned. Is this intentional, or is this missing god of swiftness an error?

Hi Jef, the story you referenced describes the birth of the Titans. No one knows the whereabouts of the other six Titans; only the Twins have influence over the world today. The Five Gods are separate; they arrived in Thylea only 500 years ago. They have similar powers to the original Titans, but as to why, that's a mystery.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that you misspelled Leiber's name in the preface.

Also, the content looks really interesting! I'm a bit concerned about how the epic paths would work, given that there are only 4 of them and I'd probably have 5 players. I love the idea, but I think they either need to be more open ended or there needs to be about a dozen of them.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
