Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary Edition

Auf die Wunschliste >
Ausgewählte Option:

All the stories they told you about what it would be like after you died? They were wrong.

There is no Heaven and there is no Hell. There’s only the Underworld, with the ravening maw of Oblivion at the bottom and the impossible dream of Transcendence at the top. And in between, all the Restless Dead.

Are you ready to join them?

Wraith: The Oblivion is the Storytelling game of passion and horror. Take the role of a ghost whose unfinished business won’t let them rest.

  • Protect the things you love in the lands of the living, or travel into the deeper Underworld to become a citizen - or an enemy - of the ancient Empire of the Dead.
  • Learn the forbidden Arcanoi, ghostly powers that can terrorize the living or wreak havoc on the dead.
  • Fight the pull of Oblivion, the endless void that seeks to drag everything down into it, and come face to face with its corrupt Spectre servants in an endless Labyrinth filled with nightmares.
  • Walk the streets of the eternal city of Stygia, where the crumbled monuments of antiquity rise one after another, a thousand destroyed cities blending into one.
  • Set sail on the never-ending storm of the Tempest with a wordless Ferryman at your side, or seek the legendary Far Shores, where it is said that every wraith can find peace and contentment.

So don’t go into the light. You’ve got more interesting things to do in the Underworld instead.

Twenty years ago, White Wolf published what many have regarded as their darkest, bleakest, and most mature gaming achievement. Largely disconnected from the rest of the World of Darkness, yet tied to it by fetters of unresolved issues from their lives, the characters also had to face the compelling whispers of their own dark sides, their Shadows.

This 20th Anniversary Edition of Wraith: the Oblivion returns to that darkly compelling world and both compiles and completes the concepts of the previous two editions.

Led by legendary Wraith: the Oblivion developer Rich "Deadguy" Dansky, our writing team consists of Wraith veterans like Bruce Baugh, Lucien Soulban, Jackie Cassada, Nicky Rea, and Clayton Oliver, as well as familiar names such as Charles Andrew Bates, Matthew Dawkins, and Lillian Cohen-Moore, and they one and all dedicated themselves to making Wraith: the Oblivion Twentieth Anniversary Edition the most playable edition yet - while not losing the incredible depth of setting and emotion that Wraith is known for.

Also available for fans of Wraith: the Olbivion:

Haunting ShadowsHaunting Shadows: The Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary Anthology

Remember those nice stories they told you about what’d happen after you died?

They were wrong.

There is no Heaven and there is no Hell. There’s only the Underworld, with the ravening maw of Oblivion at the bottom and the impossible dream of Transcendence at the top. And, somewhere in between, are scores of Restless Dead.

Are you ready to join them?

This collection of stories is inspired by Wraith: the Oblivion 20th Anniversary Edition. You’ll explore the Underworld, roam the streets of Stygia, the eternal city, visit a haunted museum, and walk new and exciting locales. This anthology includes tales by classic and new Wraith authors such as Richard Lee Byers, Jackie Cassada, Rich Dansky, Monica Valentinelli, Catherine Lundoff, Joe Nassise, and more!

Hello,

I already purchased the physical premium color book version of this book. Is it possible to get the pdf at a discount? I don't know why I did not chose the option to begin with. By the way, this book is really a masterwork.

Best wishes,
Dustin

I recently did the opposite (bought the PDF of the V20 book, and wanted the physical copy). I emailed customer support to ask them if they would allow me to purchased the physical copy for the remainder of the then combo price (which was on sale). They replied within a half hour and sent a code to add the physical book to my cart at the discounted price. Customer service here is pretty great, so go ask! :)

Hey just so you know, DTRPG, it's kind of a dick move to notify me that this product is 60% off and when I get here to buy it, find out it's only the PDF that's 60% off.

Is this suppose to be a continuation of Wraith after Ends of Empire because I thought the line and story was discontinued after that one?

Much like the other 20th Anniversary lines this is meant to be plot agnostic. It's more of a update than continuation, just better refined rules and new elements. Maybe you're running game before the events of EoE or maybe in your game the 6th great maelstrom never occurs. It's all up to you.

Sorry, not rules wise anyway!! The thing closest to it is Geist: The Sin Eaters. Although you play people that are linked on a deep level with ghosts.

Chronicles of Darkness uses the second edition of the Storytelling System used in everything from Vampire: The Requiem to Changeling: The Lost.
This uses the same system as Vampire: The Masquerade and Changeling: The Dreaming, it's the classic versions of the rules.

No, at least not without homebrew. Here's the thing though. The formula for Chronicles of Darkness and World of Darkness are pretty similar: You start as a human and the different kind of monster is a template added onto that. I don't see why you couldn't take a human from Chronicles of Darkness and merge the Wraith template with them. Sure there would be some issues but my brother is converting Changeling: The Lost (Which is Chronicles of Darkness) to be compatible with 5th Edition World of Darkness right now. If you really want it the sky is the limit and despite the 600+ page rulebooks the entire White Wolf library is pretty rules light tbh so give it a shot.

Why there is no army of the night or testimonies in my PoD? It's that a plus of the deluxe edition? That's my question, rest of the book seems excellent.

Yes; it is an art rich, 571 pg book.

Most of a books cost is bound up in the art and development.

I love Wraith, and I've recently run several Wraith games at conventions (including Gen Con). The original rules were a little unwieldy for beginners, so I was using a hack that used the Onyx Path Chronicles of Darkness system instead of the traditional one. I wasn't sure where I was going to fall when the 20th Anniversary Edition came out, but I'm here to say that I've embraced this new edition 100%. I ran it "out of the box" at Gen Con this last year and it played very smoothly. This is, in my mind, the definitive edition of the game.

question: I have a Giovani player in my games that loves to torment, enslave and all other manner of crap including making hell sticks to torture wriaths, now because back in the D&D terror moments in the 80 - 90's my mother burned my Wraith book anyway I can't find rules that make it more difficult for him to summon and torment wriaths, I want to make it harder for him to do so , he does it so cart blanche its getting annoying is there anything other than spending pathos to resist necromancers

594. The first 60-65 are a comic called The Face of Death. After that and an extensive table of contents and some filler pages Chapter 1 starts on page 80

On page 207, the apparition created by the Grotesque Apparition power is described as inheriting the user's ability dots in Repair (among others). I can find no reference to an ability called Repair anywhere else in the game. Is this an error, or am I missing something?

As written, the Technology knowledge seems to render the Computer knowledge obsolete, with its Doctorate level writeup explicitly qualifying the owner as a “programming genius”. What is the functional difference between these two knowledges?

In Mage: The Ascension, they also have listed abilities for Technology and Computers, but Technology is listed as a Skill and Computers as a Knowledge, and they also have mention of Computers being a Secondary Skill to Technology. The writing in Wraith is confusing and overlapping, but I'd rule that computer programming, debugging and hacking are what you'd use Computers for, whereas Technology is for fixing things (repairing) and general gadgeteering with hardware.

I think that's a reasonable way to interpret these abilities. Thank you for taking the time to offer some insight!

What is the "Premium" one? Deluxe, Prestige, or what? Will it have the fancy cover with holographic or emboss logos?

This is not the Deluxe limited edition version. Premium uses a higher quality printing process than Standard. However, there are no holographic or emboss logos.

Premium Heavyweight and Standard Heavyweight are both PoD, and both identical, except the Premium Heavyweight uses more/better ink/toner for printing. The pictures are prettier. That is all.
