Note: This was previously published as Blood and Smoke: the Strix Chronicle, now retitled with a new cover and an index.

Updated and revised core rule book for Vampire: The Requiem.

Tonight, you become one of the Kindred, the beautiful and the damned who hide behind our ordinary world. Driven by a hunger like fire, you will struggle to maintain your humanity while immersed in a vicious society of monsters.

Featuring Blood and Smoke: the Strix Chronicle.

The sharks you swim with aren’t the only ones out there. Your Kindred are the smart, sexy vampires of pop culture, but you are haunted by the Strix -- the grisly, demon-possessed corpses of folklore. They slaughtered the Night-Senate of Rome, drowned the tombs of the Princes of Alexandria, and warred with the Plague Lords of Transylvania.

Tonight, they’re loose on the streets of your city. Time for the sinners to become the saints, and the hunters to become the prey.

Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition contains:

  • A complete guide to playing a vampire in the World of Darkness. No other rulebooks are required, and the rules are fully compatible with The God-Machine Chronicle.
  • Reimagined clans, covenants, and supernatural powers to create your perfect monster... and her friends and foes.
  • A first-ever look at vampire domains around the world, from Tokyo to Berlin.
  • Twenty unique Strix, as well as complete rules for building your own.
Note on the Print Editions: Standard Color uses a thinner paper stock than Premium Color, basically the same paper as the Black & White books. This usually means the colors are less vivid, but it also means the price drops a bit per page in the production process. Examples of pages: Premium Color vs. Standard Color.

Also available for Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition:

Check out the Strix Chronicle Fiction Anthology a collection that unveils the schemes and atrocities of Kindred and Strix alike. These are the tales of those whom even monsters fear.

The Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition Condition Cards are also available to provide an easy and fun way to use Conditions at your gaming table.

I must confess slight disappointment in the way this PDF basically doesn't have a proper table of contents in the inbuilt bookmarks, forcing me to go back to page 4 (the ToC page) if I need to figure out where something is and don't have it memorized yet.

needs Errata.

Nosferatu, the clan of Fear Incarnate, whose Discipline is that of Nightmare, allowing him to cause fear on mortals and kindred alike, a Discipline that straight out buffs intimidation skills... suffer increased social penalties in any social roll and turn any failure in a Presence or Manipulation check in a dramatic failure, unless they are interacing with their Touchstone or Kindreds... but not when intimidating people.

The idea that the Clan of Fear have a permanent -1 at intimidation and turn any failure in a dramatic failure when trying to intimidate someone sounds weird to me, as if someone forgot to add "when intimidating" in the exceptions of the bane. Also, given the lore in the very same book, it seen like Nosferatu aren't that kin on socializing with their touchstones, either staying a watcher from afar, or haunting them, so I don't see why interacting with touchstones would be an exception to the bane.

I would recomend replacing the "interactions...See more

TBH, this is something a Storyteller can easily homebrew, cause intimidation being an exception makes sense. Granted, an errata or maybe even a new edition might be nice, but it's not impossible to work around.

that's what I ended up doing, but it inevitably ends up rising discussions (when playing on stores, rather than exclusevely with friends) as to the validid of homebrew material that changes the core book, rather than adding upon it. Sure, nothing that can't be worked around... but it would just speed things up if the correction was made on the book itself

... They don't? They when interacting with with Humans they treat Humanity score as being -2 to what it really is, but Frightening humans with Intimidation is explicitly not penalized by Humanity (Page 106)

Unfortunately, the Premium Color version still doesn’t compare to the original prints of the line. When placed side by side, even the Premium Color version looks dull and washed out compared to publisher prints. I can only imagine how ratchet the Standard Color looks. Know before you buy that print on demand just doesn’t have the quality of publisher runs. Preorder on Kickstarter when you can. That having been said, Hunter: the Vigil 2nd Edition is still open for Kickstarter preorders. Best get on that while you can. Otherwise it’s print on demand for you!

From what I could tell there is little to no difference between the two prints. You are essentially paying for paper

Maybe it is located somewhere; but I lost my collection of books. I have been trying to reorder them; but I am having a serious problem. I have recently purchased several of them; but there seems to be no way to know what goes with what. Maybe, its one a website somewhere, I don't know. I currently have 4 different editions, some with some compatibility to each other. Could there be a master list that explains the compatibility? The 20th anniversary, what does it work with? Supplements, some will work with most everything, others not at all except specific editions. I would really like a conversion guide (maybe with 5 dots, lol) to explain. A supplement sometimes can work with any of the series. Some are pretty specific. Some versions I like better than others, preference. It would be really handy to know if Masquerade worked with the Lost 2nd and if not directly compatible is there some info on how or why not. This sale is great and being able to get the PDF and an actual copy is fantastic; but not if I don't...See more

There are two editions fo Vampire the Requiem. Requiem 1st Edition and Requiem 2nd Edition. Technically there is also Blood and Smoke: the Strix Chronicle, but that is the same rules in this edition

The Standard uses a lighter paper. and shows a bit lighter in color. Also, they are not full bleed which means there is a small white border around each page. Personally, I have purchased both and they are both great quality, but I do prefer the Premium as I like my color more vibrant and the paper a bit heavier. If you're looking for a break in cost, it won't kill to go standard.

Forgive me if this has been brought up before & I just missed it on this board.

I got just about everything WW put out for VtR & then I fell off the earth. When I got back, I discovered WW cast too many spells, suffered a Paradox backlash & got turned into a black trail.

Ok. It happens.

I would very much like to continue building my world, so I'm asking with the arrival of OPP (love that name by the way) & VtR 2 (vamp harder) does that make everything I have from before, such as covenant & clan books, obsolete as OPP will be coming out with fresh ones or do the old ways still apply?

I don't mind starting over from scratch but I'm afraid repurchasing everything only to find out the character sheet or some other minutia is all that has changed would leave me somewhat nonplussed, as that's money I could be spending to expand rather than start over.

I guess what I'm asking is does OPP represent a true continuation or is it...See more

Thanks R.B. for getting back with me so quickly!

Wow. Reinvigorated to be sure. Sounds like ya'll have been busy. What you described in the second & third paragraph has very much piqued my interest. (I know there are those who are really into game mechanics, but that's always been secondary to nonexistent for me personally. I've always been thoroughly impressed with your team's creativity & attention to detail in the setting & characters. For me, that moves the story better.)

So, sounds fun. I'm in. I'll be driving back thru next payday.

Oh, and thank goodness ya'll got to the bottom of that little language snafu!
As I have said for many years, absolutely nothing can transform a sophisticated evening of bean dip, Dr Pepper, & RPGs into a snuff juice wang dang doodle like some poorly phrased Latin. Tres gauche... :)

Thanks again, & I hope you have a good evening,

Hello,

Requiem 2nd Ed is being described as "A complete guide to playing a vampire in the World of Darkness. No other rulebooks are required." However, a couple of fellow gamers claimed to have copies of "Blood and Smoke" and said that there were references to other source books still within. I have yet been able to confirm that. So my question is:

- If I have NO books whatsoever from OPP/WW and get Requiem 2nd Ed, do I have everything needed to play Vampire: the Requiem (except pen, paper and dice of course)?
- If so; is the same true with PDFs and prints of "Blood and Smoke"?

I just recieved my print on demand copy, as usual it took pretty much a month to come in, but also unfortunately, it, like all print on demand HC's I've ordered from Drivethru (masquerade 20, werewolf 20 and now requiem 2nd edition) has come in with huge gouges and damage along the cover due to the shipping methods. For the money I'm paying I'd like to think it's get things in the condition they'd be off the shelf at my local gaming store. This is unfortunate as there are several other titles i've been thinking of getting ( I loathe running a game off pdf/tablet) but I'm wary due to the damage every hard cover has had.

This has constantly been an issue for me, they charge $60 for a color book and ship it as cheaply as possibly, which means it WILL arrive dinged and scratched. Ive also had issues when drive through prints these massive 300+ page premium color hardcovers that the pages begin to fall out since its NOT a thread sewn binding. This means that the quality is not up to the standards of a book that costs $60. This has been my #1 criticism with Onyx Path since they decided to go down the POD path and not traditionally bound. So for now Im going to stick to pdfs, which I can also share with my gaming group. My big hope now that Paradox Games has purchased the White Wolf IP is that they will return to a traditional model of printing.

I tried buying BESM Third Edition and am scared to use the book due to the poor quality glued binding. Next I bought the Mage 20th Edition - 600+ pages!!! The spine cracked and broke the first time I opened it!!! A $100 book!!! Luckily, DTRPG refunded my payment.

At this point, POD is only to be used for soft back books. This POD system is just terrible. I much preferred buying my books in the store. It is pdf only for anything WW/Onyx Path. Sad, but true.

Thanks a lot R. B

The index is very very very usefull !!!
I gonna check the conditions appendix soon.
As english is not my native language, i'm not sure i really undertand this sentence relative to Mekhet Clan Bane : "This bane counts toward the three banes a vampire is allowed". So when reaching Humanity 6, a Mekhet MUST choose a bane, that's ok. But is he allowed ultimately 3 or 4 banes other than collectives banes ? I tried translators on internet but the meaning of "toward" is unclear to me. I still have a doubt. In my idea it seems that a Mekhet can't have more than 3 individuals banes neither, like other clans but must have at least one of them (well and that's a good thing as 3 banes tend to be very difficult to play !!!).

"If you take this bane, it counts as one of the three banes you are allowed." You don't get three and then also this one, totaling four. You get three and this is one of those three.

Did they fix bugs from earlier version? I mean, if I'll take PoD now - will it be the exact version of book, that was released in december, or better version with errata?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
